How long a chainstay for a tourer?
That's a personal preference, but the minimum is = heel clearance + ~1" from any panniers chosen for the rear rack. Far short of 53cm chainstays unless the touring gear you rear load is massive; or, you wear clown shoes and dance on th pedals.


Buy the Riv, they deserve your business and have always been known for quality brazed frames. Gravel roads, some camping gear and wide supple tires harken to this frameset.
