PSA - Counterfeit Chains Are Rampant

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That chain looks legit. Most likely it came in a plastic bag b/c Merlin bought stuff in quantity from a bike manufacturer that didn't use up all of its groupsets building new bikes.

If your drivetrain is making new noises, that's perhaps from running a new chain on (at least somewhat) worn chainrings and cassette cogs. Run it for a couple hundred miles and it'll quiet down.

that's a nice benefit. do they have to claim that against their taxes?

i meant to comment on this yesterday but forgot...that quick link looks beat to hell, side plates don't look nearly as bad. i run 10 speed (SRAM) and mine look nothing like that. yours being 12 maybe due to closer cog spacing? i assume 12S means 12 speed?

yeah… the photo was a little surprising. it’s a pretty new chain, not abused, no chain drops, etc. doesn’t look that way to the naked eye but the scraping on the quick link is wierd.
