Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

BIG DAY! Update on Rad's Tete.

Today marks the 2 year anniversary of the day I delivered the ti/carbon '04 Lemond Tete de Course frame to my local artisan to be custom painted.

2 years ago today...seems like just yesterday.

Yep, it's a big day.

LOL so no update just an anniversary? Or are you actually going to get it today? What are the chances this bike gets painted before my son graduates highschool?

Unreal.

So what is your statute of limitations? Either the bike gets painted, or the guy at Acme passes away, whichever comes first?

In either case, I hope your great-grandkids enjoy riding it when it's finally ready!

Good thing there's no steel in that bike, otherwise you'd have to worry about corrosion.

Pope Julius II only had to wait four years for Michelangelo to finish the Sistine Chapel.

You're halfway there, Rad! I really don't know how you've managed to wait this long.

I think you're probably ready to upgrade all those boxed Record parts you bought for the bike, without even ever installed them. Technology will have long passed that gruppo by by the time it's ready to be built up.

Really. Right now, I wish I had the SRAM Force group for this particular frame. But the Record stuff will come in handy - I do have a long term Pinarello steel project in the works that it would fit on. I'm not planning on using it for that but it's an option....

And to think I felt bad that I pulled the plug on a custom project when the guy was only 5 months late delivering the frame.

Your capacity for frustration knows no bounds.

This has turned into an epic black comedy. I'm glad you have patience and a sense of humor. Most people would have sought out a different painter a year and 6 months ago...

So is this guy painting it for free at this point? I mean, 2 years is a little long to wait to paint a frame. There has to be some kind of recompense.

Oh and Happy Anniversary!

Unbelievable. I was thinking that you might have actually gotten your frame...maybe he's just trying to substantiate a particular portion of your bike's theme! ; )

Congratulations Rad on reaching your 2 year anniversary.
I saw my first Tete last Friday in a bike shop here in Kyoto. Whilst I understand the finish I saw will be in no way similar to yours, I must say the lugs etc are beautiful on them.
Steve.

When this bike is finished, you should take a year off and ride around the US so that we can all get a chance to see this amazing artifact in person.

For the unfortunate many who can't make your tour, BF should have a special, high bandwith site established just to handle the pictures - I want 5 meg pictures minimum.

Ah Rad...luck of the draw on the old news cycle....

Any other day this is a hot, top topic on BF, but Floyd steals some of your thunder. You need to incorporate some sort of doping scandal in the whole Tete story next....

i don't know about you guys, but i never pick up and complete anything from 2 years ago. this frame is probably pushed all the way in the back of the shop and is unlikely to ever be worked on by this guy again. 2 years will turn into 5 before you know it.

That's not really an update...

But in reference to what Timmhaan posted: have you learned about any progress on it since the last time you saw it? I seem to recall a pic where the bike was at least primed. It would be nice to know that the guy acknowleges its existence. At this point, I'd be expecting to see some sort of calendar where your bike is penciled in for some time... even if it's like 6 months down the road. Without a deadline of any sort, I'd think it's likely he just keep pushing it off and pushing it off.
