Had a lot of fun with DOS based PCs in the early 90's. Rewriting initialization scripts in DOS language for better memory management and speed, upgrading the computer hardware with more storage and ROM to run games.
Now 600 megs in a hard disk sounds really wimpy silly. Back then I felt on top of the world with that, ROM slots filled on the board and an Intel 486 chip!

Cool pics! Mine is also wine making, but not on this scale. I'm still in to the six-gallon batches, and have a bunch glass carboys, fermenters, a floor corker, and other crap in my basement near the bike area. I tried to talk my wife in to a crusher/destemmer, and was unsuccessful. I think it was more about the space than the money.

My house is also a graveyard of other hobbies that have bitten the dust due to lack of continuing interest:
-Photography
-Guitars
-Model Aircraft/Drones
-Web development
-Vinyl Records (I still play them, but put much less effort in to purchasing/finding them)

"The Kodak Retina IIa (front camera in the picture) has been my go-to travel camera for close to 40 years.
And the 'Nam era Leicas and Nikon F-series SLRs would take another post."

Yep! Got mine for $25 in 1964 and it wasn't long before I realized how frequently I grabbed it because something might happen to my expensive camera. F2 Zeiss lens and 1/500th leaf shutter was pretty versatile. Had mine re-leathered in the 70's back when camera repair guys were more common, so it was still pretty nice. We think it got tossed by the wife with a bunch of stuff sent to Goodwill when we moved into our new home. Don

Been there with the guitars. I picked one up about 4 years ago. A lovely little Regal made parlor from the early 20’s. I fell so much in love with it that I quit buying guitars, and sold all the others I had.

The bike thing, has become a problem. It’s been an obsession all year, and I’ve spent amounts beyond reason. I’m running out of space with bikes, wheels, frames, small parts... and taking guitar picking for granted in the mean time.

I have two builds in mind which I intended to be the end all for a while. I’ll liquidate the collection afterwards, and refocus on playing music, arts/crafts, camping, and fly fishing.

I used to do a lot of other stuff like what's mentioned here: playing/collecting musical instruments, playing/collecting vinyl, cooking food for fun and for profit. These days I only have time for a little bike riding, a little bike tinkering, and a little academia (history of religions). And a lot of hanging out with the little guy.

Very cool. The barrels intrigue me - I associate those with bourbon producers more than wineries of late. They must be a pain to acquire, from casual reading I know the demand for them is fierce.

Bikes are 90% of my hobby time. The other 10% is cooking, because I like to eat well. Got a smoker this year, that's my once every few weeks hobby now.

But bikes, man, ride 'em, buy 'em, work on 'em.

Thanks for the offer. Does your luthier have a return policy? I picked up a nice Chinese fiddle in August for $275. This model retailed for $1800 new, so I think it was a good deal. It has a good sound, despite my playing. Violin prices are ridiculous, and unlike bikes, labels mean nothing!

What’s funny is I now scour CL looking for vintage violins, rather than bikes! I’ve bought three to restore, but it’s not as easy as working on bikes. Setting a soundpost is almost as frustrating as removing a frozen stem!

I’m almost 60, and playing despite significant arthritis in my bow arm shoulder (one reason I don’t ride as much). I’m getting a cortisone injection next week, and my orthopedist wants to get an MRI. I’ll have surgery if it worsens, so I can continue playing and (sigh) working. I’m really looking forward to retirement these days.

I just learned about this Graflex thing last month- I saw a display of Marilyn Monroe stuff and assorted movie props and Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber from the first two movies was in a display case- you could see the Graflex logo on it!

Here's just another shelf of my model car display hobby.......
I might get another one this Christmas to add to the collection, but problem these days is, a good quality model can cause as much or more than a really nice C&V bike!

Thanks! I measured where the neck pick-up was on my Thunderbird and used that as a reference. It ended up being a 1/4 closer to the neck. Sound wise to my ear, it lives between a P-Bass and Thunderbird. It is a bit easier to play than the Thunderbird. It is a Japaneses Fender Jazz bass neck from thw early 1990's a fender Blacktop P-Bass body, Lollar Thunderbird pickups, new 500k CTS pots and .047 Orange drop cap and new Schaller tuners. I dig it.

Today.....it is an old hobby that is getting in the way. Several years ago I got into building vacuum tube guitar amplifiers....cloning some classic Fender designs. Along the way, I accumulated a boat load of tubes. I'll spare you the tale. I sold a bunch of these a few years ago, but I still have several hundred left. A winter project for me is to find new homes for these tubes and my tube tester. I spent most of yesterday testing the first batch and several hours today listing them on eBay. IT IS FRIGGIN' TEDIOUS. I've had enough of this for today....if the damned drizzle would stop I'd like to get out for a ride!

Xavier Vidal i Roca , they have an online store. i have not had to return anything so not so sure about the policy. I have 3 chinese fiddles and 1 is ok while the other two are outstanding. One of the outstanding is a 3/4 Jay Haide for my daughter, but I play it sometimes just for fun and its great. The other outstanding is also a Haide- but 4/4

I hear you on the soundpost, i spent like a hour cursing and coming up with all sorts of homemade tools of wire, wood, string and tape to try and get it in there and adjusted properly.
