I was so frosted when you originally posted the theft, Like anyone (especially a small business owner) needs any more crap on their plate now, Hats off to the returner, and congrats to the returnee!

UPDATE: I finally got a chance to speak to the guy who recovered the bike (Steve, owner of Steve's Bikes). Here's the story...
A local crackhead brought a rear wheel into Steve's Bikes, asking for the rear tire to be fixed. Steve immediately recognized the wheel as being part of the stolen Cinelli. He told the guy to wait and he would take care of the tire for him. Meanwhile, Steve tried to delay things as much as possible, and called his friend for back-up. The delays went on for about 15 minutes with Crackhead growing increasingly anxious about wanting to get out of there, coming to the point of demanding the wheel back. About that time, Steve's friend showed up at the shop. Steve told Crackhead that he knew the bike that the wheel belong to, and that it was stolen. Crackhead insisted that he didn't steal the bike, but did confirm that he had it. Steve offered him 2 choices - $50 for the bike, or he would call the police and he would be arrested for possession of stolen property. Crackhead made the smart choice, and Steve's friend took him to pick up the bike at his house. With the exception of some small scratches on the toe clips, the bike was pristine.

Crackhead wouldve taken alot less than 50 bucks to walk away scott free. Either way great to hear the bicycle was recovered.

Nice. I hate thieves....and am glad that the rightful owner got his protect back. And way to go to the owner that did all of that to recover it.

His savior was most likely all the anno red parts that made it easy to ID. So many vintage 10-12 speeds look alike to an untrained eye, that they are never noticed.

So glad it turned out as good as it can... minus justice being served to the thief.
It's really shocking that it was a crackhead- and not some nutty bike collector with a 4 story room full of vintage machines- with an empty spot on the wall for that Cinelli.

You might be right, but Steve was just trying to make sure he got the bike back as quickly as possible. $50 was enough motivation, apparently. Crackhead was probably unaware that the owner of the bike was offering a $1000 reward.
