Freshly fendered this afternoon, and immediately soaked on a ride after work. Just can't be helped in April in Portland. Giving myself bonus green points for the newly painted garage door, too.

Whoa @cocoabeachcrab , a Monarch Silver King nicely finished, No green on it, but there is some green on me. I'm jealous. Have you shown it here before? Handlebars, grips, seat and even the water bottle work well with the look. I don't know much about the Silver Surfer but that seems fitting as well.

Nice green mystery bike too. I like the old oil lamp.

Holy moly, these are two slick Silver Kings, @cocoabeachcrab ! Every detail is nicely done. Like that rear derailleur. It looks like it is a Shimano but, with some changes. Bullseye pulleys, polished body, glass beaded look on the pulley cage, and did you make that derailleur bracket? I am also impressed that the drum brake hub with a 5 speed freewheel fit into the dropouts. These bikes came with American bottom brackets and your switch to three piece cranks on both bikes look like they belong. I'm also thinking that these are 24" rims, since it may be difficult to fit a Silver King with 26" wheels.

Really impressive.

Back to green bikes.

just one last hijack of this green thread... both silver kings have 26 inchers and the RD is indeed an ultegra . this is my granddaughters 1935 silver king for the daffodil run tomorrow... we did this one together because building a birdhouse as a project seemed boring! now back to our regularly scheduled green bike thread!

Excuse my interruption in the photo-stream, but can anyone lead me to a visual example of the "lime green" that was the factory color of 1959 Claud Butler Challenge? Just another name for flam? (In post #394, on April 4th, Merziac alluded to this) With luck, I'll have my Coureur to show you all next April, re-done in this color scheme:.

'89 SBX Reparto Corse - sorry for NDS pic as I always disembark on the left the drive side always gets on the wrong side of the camera. This started the whole bike craze like 15 years ago and set me on the CV path although it was a youngtimer back then.

This thread is making me realize I have to get some new photos of my bikes. Currently, I've got an anthracite ST1000 sitting rather sadly disassembled in my storage unit, and a beater 520 with that great black forest green paint job (feat. pink fork). Then there's also the incredibly modern Topstone 2L in jade. I guess I like green bikes.

Here's the ST1000 right before, and during RAGBRAI 2022

Rocket ship. This the bike that Bruce Dern would have ridden in Silent Running (green for plants, red for heading to Jupiter, white for the sterile environment of space)..

You might want to post this question on the retro bike UK website.

I might, but it probably won't be necessary. I just thought someone might have one. Actually, I'm kind of liking bbob's Colnago color. Anyway, I found an example of a green Claud from 1955 at Classic Lightweights: https://www.classiclightweights.co.u...sprint-rb1.jpg

My $20 Green Bike

I just finished my $20 special to run to the farmer's market this summer. It's a SekineSHR from 1972 with a double butted chrome moly frame and steel rims. I was sorely tempted to change the wheels to alloy but the bike has a lot of integrity as the parts are original so I left them alone.

The bike came to me with very decent tires and tape. The tape is original to the bike. The only things I had to change were the cables and housing as well as the saddle. The rest of the parts are original. The old saddle was trash and I couldn't resist this one from my parts bin with green etching to complete the look.

I'm amazed that a bike as nice as that Sekine has steel wheels on it. Everything else about the bike is nicer.
If it was mine, I'd be looking to replace them with something better.

It surprised me as well when I bought the bike. I assumed when I saw the photos with the nice chrome and the tubing sticker that the wheels would be alloy. This is how the bike came stock though. I tried to resist not changing any of the original parts but I may eventually do it.

This might be a case for finding a cheap set of aluminum-rim wheels as a "daily driver" set, and hanging onto the steelies for occasions/appearances.

But yeah, a DB-CrMo frame combined with steel rims is something of a head-scratcher. Same could be said for the "turkey" brake levers. Sorta like the '70s Raleigh Grand-ish Sport-ish models with full DB 531, but stamped dropouts.

Just torn down this complete but neglected 1973 Peugeot AE8. The green paint has stood up well. The Sun Tour stem shifters were added at sometime and the plastic Simplex has seen better days. The DT shifter boss was removed. I have some vintage Huret components I may use. The leather saddle is dry and broken.

"His & hers" (sigh) matching 1998 Trek 820s, just about identical aside from frame size. Apologies for the NDS view, this is the only photo I have of them together.
