Dick's Sporting Goods - DB with 105/Ultegra $899
I had to run into a Dick's SG yesterday to grab something for my daughter, and BRIEFLY saw a DB road bike with Ultegra RD and 105 FD. I THINK it was THIS BIKE, though the listing shows all 105 DR's. I'm sure it's the same knockoff frame made somewhere in China/Taiwan/etc., but may be a step above BD in that it comes assembled. Was surprised at the level of components for that price.

Looks ok, but the biggest size is a 55. I'm guessing the greater part of cyclists on here ride a 56. A 55 would work I guess, but that's a weird place to stop.

not so fast. i had a bike assembled by them. on the same bike on separate occasions, once, one of the cranks fell off. the other time, the cassettes came loose. quite shoddy

That's a good price with those components. Buy it and get it checked out.

That 55 is probably a seat-tube measurement, of a compact frame, meaning the actual sizes are larger than you think they are.

It's a good thing BF exists, or people wouldn't have a place to post about every item they found online or in a store.

I'm not ready to buy, and I have way too many bikes to test-ride before buying. I have way too much obsessing to do before I can buy anything!

The Gossamer crank is NOT a piece of ****. I run (and severely abuse) that unit on my C-X bike. The BB, however, is complete junk.
The good news is that an Ultegra BB solves the issue forever.
I had a string of FSA BB's go dead after every muddy race last year. Performance gladly replaced them every time until I finally ponied up a few more bucks for the Shimano unit. No problems, even under the nastiest conditions.

Expect to see alot of places try to dump their old 105 equipped bikes at seemingly low prices. 5700 will be everywhere for sure in the '11 model year.

Well, would you like for me to return to the store and take a picture for you. I do not work there, have nothing to gain here, and have been to the store twice in my life. I simply posted it in case someone is looking for a bike that appears to be fairly well equipped, wants to save some money, and doesn't want to do the BD thing. I said nothing about retail price. There was a tag hanging from the handle bars. It said $899. Please educate me what aspect of that is "bogus" and what part of "Etc." makes me a "Total shill". Please enlighten me.
Why is it that every time someone posts something in an effort to help others someone has to call them a shill. Absolutely amazing. Actually, very pathetic.

more likely reputations than anything else. you joined rather recently & don't have that many posts, so when you begin to start a thread about a product of mediocre background, some automatically think shill

I would actually consider that bike. I wonder how the late Podium frames are after people loved them so much a while back. Is it physically in the stores locally?

I saw two on the shelf, but both looked to be smaller frames. They were at the Dick's in Santa Clarita. It's the only Dick's I've been in so I can't say if it's in other stores or not. I'm not even sure where they have any other stores.

Well, I truly posted what I saw in an effort to help anyone on a tight budget looking for a bike. By the number of BD threads, I know they're out there. I would think a 30 second search of my previous posts would prove to anybody but the most cynical that I am far from a Shill. It's really sad to me that some would rather just assume the worst in people than invest 30 seconds to give them the benefit of the doubt. Believe it or not, there are people in this world who are willing to do things for others with no expectations of compensation. Some people just like to help others. Heck, this forum is full of them....for the most part.
