Wow...what's with all the negativity? Day after the ride and I was impressed. It has been a long time since I paid for an event. $99 for a supported ride, a very nice jersey, and a pasta lunch was a value I found hard to pass up. The escorted start was awesome. Irvine PD had all the side streets blocked off along Alton all the way out to the first bike trail, 2 miles. I love the design of the jersey. I am a fan of Bianchi and their Bianchi green. Hincapie makes a quality product. What do you people expect from a Gran Fondo in a suburban area. There will be stop lights. The use of the bike paths made the ride enjoyable, scenic and fast. After completing the very scenic Back Bay I had no problem passing at will. Back Bay was basically a no pass section, strictly for your viewing entertainment. SAG stops were adequately placed and stocked but I missed my orange slices.

Although I'd been over Santiago 1/2 a dozen times before Saturday, there were a couple of other hills that I had never done that I thought were quite steep. Cannon was a very nice in your face surprise. Like Oak was no joke either, although not as long - the descent through the woods was sweetness and made it totally worth it... I can't believe I'd never done that one before. I'd threatened to do Glenn Ranch more than a few times and that was also pretty steep. But Saddleback... I don't know if it was because of all the climbing before it or what, but Saddleback was insane for me. Fortunately, I'd hooked up a some other riders that talked me up it.
If you were wearing a San Clemente jersey Saturday morning and coached a couple of Fondo riders up Glenn Ranch and Saddleback - I didn't catch your name but thank you very much.

being as this was my first organized ride, it was not bad at all, only gripe is too many stop lights and the directions after the descent from santiago was very weird and somebody removed the signs for one of the turns, so my happy a$$ got lost 10miles out my 64miler turned into a 74miler LOL
the price of admission was not bad at $105 after surecharge and includes full SAG support, Hincapie Jersey, and LUNCH...cant really ask for more
heres some details from my cyclemeter app from my ip4
the Jersey, i must say is at least worth $50-$60
map of the route, u can see where i doublebacked from getting lost LOL
graph of the route climbing and descending with SPEED
and finally the ride summary...not quite sure how accurate all this stuff is cus sometimes cyclemeter app wigs out on me, but this is all i have to base my ride on and now i know that i need more HILL CLIMB Training
