The IRD QB-55 (and -75, and -95) uses a pair of sealed bearing cartridge assemblies.
I think that the UN55 uses an arrangement where balls are in direct contact with bearing surfaces on the spindle and the shell of the cartridge. See details in this thread: Repacking a Shimano BB-UN55.

In any case, it's already installed and working fine, albeit with possibly the risk of the NDS being inserted too far/tight or not far/tight enough and destroying itself or working loose.
