Funny how that works

Looks like the correct pedals for the year - right down to the shape of the cage. Later versions (probably CPSC change-mandated) had softer curves at the quill; yours appear to have the earlier, pointy quill.

I took this pic long ago to illustrate the slight difference in quill shapes:

Nothing.
Today
Yesterday
The day before that.
It snowed.
A lot.
I don't think they use that slogan anymore.
I'm fine with that.
Safety first.

I did not know that. I will have to go look at the other sets I have. I bought these from a C.R. list member not even knowing there was a difference. Whodathunk!!! Thanks for the info, that's why I like these forums/lists.

Cool - that looks as though it also works for cog removal! I'd be pretty stoked to add one of those to my toolbox

^ There's been lots of stuff about pre/post CPSC changes to Campy NR/SR components on BF C&V; I wanna say the mandates took effect in 1979. A search would confirm, tho.

EDIT: 1978, according to Velo Retro

"1978 C.P.S.C. (Consumer Product Safety Commission) mandates changes to NR/SR. Included are a front derailleur lip, 2.5 mm increase in spacing between crank spider and arm to clear the front derailleur lip with corresponding increase in bottom bracket axle length, a curved quick release lever and ball-end added to quick release conical adjuster, dome-shape added to quick release cam lever on brake calipers, plastic covering added to the wheel guides on the brake shoes, and plastic safety-shields added to rear derailleur screws. The word "Patent" is changed to "Brev." on the chainring, chainring bolts and crank dust caps. Down tube shifters with bumpy edges and raised letters changed to thicker, smooth edged levers with sunken letters. The Super Record rear derailleur has aluminum pivot bolts substituted for its titanium pivot bolts 1978 and 1979, apparently because of a titanium shortage."

Interestingly enough, there's no mention of the pedal differences here (which also included a more rounded kick-tab as well), but I'd be willing to bet they've simply been overlooked by VR. The changes are pretty subtle.

Mercian arrival

Issues withstanding, Jdawg is in love. Merida Mercian hjas arrived (yes, all my bicycles have non-neutral alliterative names). Wears green with golden hand lined lugs and matte paint. Delicate decals.

Pictures in its own thread.

I've been eagerly awaiting this Campagnolo Italian-threaded Record triple BB from France. It was advertised as used. It came without a box, but it looks NOS to me. No marks on flats or any residue on threads, and the cups look pristine.

Merz lightweight parts!

Getting parts together for my next build, which is a '79 Raleigh Team 753 SBDU bike, frame currently at the painter. I'm going for a lightweight build on this one, and Jim Merz put together some parts for me, including alloy barrel adjustors, titanium Cinelli stem pinch bolt, titanium Super Record seatpost bolt, titanium Super Record nuts and washers, alloy SR rear derailleur bolts, and a titanium/alloy brake center bolt (to match another one I have, made by OMAS).... beautiful craftsmanship by Jim, expensive but worth it to me!

I was a bit disappointed in the Racing T tooth count. Started looking occasionally for alternatives and found a guy in the UK who is selling NOS rings at the price most others on the bay charge for one.

How did this get upside down?!

It was a good week for MH and the Postal Service. I received a pair of calipers, and a bag of parts to bump up the stash pile.

They need some TLC but should work fine on a period correct build. Now to find some brake block holders...

Box of junk to most but the small parts in the center of the pic are kinda pricey if I needed to buy them one item at a time. The cage plates on the lower left are selling for $30 each on flea bay. The super vintage parts on the right side, are going to be looking for a new home.

Most recently I found a 170mm Ritchey Logic 110 crankset and 4 volume set of Barnett's Manuals. Also got a 30.2/27 Tange Levine headset. I'm having trouble finding any one local with the proper facing and reaming cutters. 30 years ago, some one "cut" a corner.

Yay, I've been looking for some clincher rims since I've only got those new fangled tubulars at the moment (on Mavic Monthlery Route).
Mostly because I could fix clinchers on the road side 40+ years back, but haven't tried fixing tubulars yet.
It's also very windy outside and I need something to work on
I also want to try wheel building so I'm going to respoke these, probably on the hubs they came with.

Mavic MA2 for £47 on Ebay:

They look fairly OK, but I haven't cleaned them up and checked for cracks yet.
They're 32 spoke, would have preferred 36 spoke, but they did come with a set of Shimano RX100 hubs (8 speed):

The rear hub is FH-A551 which is 130mm OLD 8 speed, but according to 10-speeds on a 126mm hub SUCCESS
I may well be able to adjust it to 126mm OLD with the 8 speed cassette (or 9, or 10).

The cassette also seems to work, it's 12-23, so Shimano CS-HG50-8 U or SRAM PG-850. But that's going to get replaced since 23 is too small.

It came but I’m too tired to open it and ooh and awe. It was a long day and I made it back to the terminal on fumes, putting 96 gallons of fuel in a 100 gallon tank. To top it off I wasn’t even home yet and got my Iwatch bedtime reminder
