Unless there's really something you like about the GT, I don't think you'd get your money's worth out of the GT.

I like the look of the Hardrock. The GT proportionally doesn’t look right to me but whichever feels best and speaks to you personally would be the correct one to choose.

The bag is an old military surplus bag. I made a few buckled leather straps to match my Gilles Berthoud bag, which I used to attach the bag to the seat rails.

This is my old MTB with new upright bar ready to be used on the streets (at least if there is enough light and no rain :-) ).
I've noted that now that the riding position is more erect, the saddle is not as comfortable as before.
I'm probably going to change it with a city bike saddle with springs.

1993 Wheeler 6600 Comp-Line Street Conversion
I recently horse-traded for this bike with a friend of mine. It's in pristine condition, must have been sitting somewhere for a very long time. Here is the photo from the CL ad:
This riding position was a bit too extreme for my liking, so I converted it with a SOMA Mustache II handlebar and proper Deore XT thumb-shifters with separate Pro Max brake levers:
The riding position isn't exactly what I would call "upright", but it certainly fits the "Urban Bike" category of this thread.
I posted a more detailed technical description of my mods over on the Vintage MTB thread, so I won't bore you with it here. Suffice to say it was quite a challenge, as the fork steerer was some kind of hybrid threaded/threadless 1-inch O.D. thing that I have never seen nor even heard of before. It took some creativity to come up with a solution for that. As they taught us in the Corps: "Improvise, Adapt, Overcome".
The ride is incredible; comfortable enough while still retaining the original razor-sharp handling. I really like the Mustache handlebar. And of course the Deore LX/XT drivetrain is flawless. I'll be commuting a lot on this bike. Although it's not my prettiest, it is definitely my sportiest ride at the moment. I'll post it again when I have some better photos to show you.

After reading through this thread I have decided that Velo Orange Milan is what I want for my trek 850. But everywhere I look says they are out of stock.
Are they out of business or just hard to get?
Any good substitutes? Sunlite North Roads seem to have a bit more sweep than I want.
