Just got my measurements in to Alex for the Marosticana build. Haven't picked a color yet but I doubt they would offer a bad color!

Oooooooh.

Are you getting one of the ten special chromovolato frames? Got that e-mail, was tempted, but am in de-acquisition mode myself.

They make beautiful stuff.

Yes, I think that all they do are limited edition bikes! Sadly I think that is the nature of the business, but I wish Alex all the success he can achieve in his efforts. Bikes like this are a great value, especially when you consider their longevity! My prediction is that one day steel will be back in the main stream again one day, to some degree.

@Oldairhead - Beautiful bike! Love the seat lug treatment for the SS and fork crown is unique too!

Like the chrome treatment. I am such a sucker for it.

Well, after supplying measurements to Alex B. I received this proposed build sheet for the Marosticana from Giovanni. I didn't share the measurements page because I thought that it might be something that the builder would rather not be made public. This however is the build plan that resulted from the data I provided. This is going to be specific to me and my riding style and perhaps not of much use to anyone else. May be of some interest to this crowd though!

I like everything except the 4-arm crank spider. 3-spoke and 5-arm (including Campag.'s 4-arm with the crank itself serving as the fifth) just look "right" to me.

At least its silver, not matte black, like most new stuff.

Very interesting. Those are my own fit measurements except for a 17mm lower saddle height. Everything else=same same.

Are you getting downtube braze-ons, or is this a dedicated Ergo bike with cable stops on the head tube?

@Oldairhead You base the specs off your fav ride?
If so, what is it?

I have a 2001 Pegoretti Palo Santo that I have ridden mainly for long distance events. I have over 50 double centuries on that bike as well as a few longer events, including a 21 hour triple century! You can't sit on a bike that long unless it is dialed in. No need to mess with a good thing!

Since folks are posting other modern Italian lugged steel bikes:

Cinelli

Ciocc

Tommasini

etc etc etc.
Loads of very cool options out there.

The complete build is overpriced for the parts it has and it's not made in Italy I don't believe, but I still like the Masi Gran Criterium Classico. They came out in '17 and I keep waiting for the price to drop but it never does.

I've seen these Somec frames in person in both green and red Chromovolato. Very nicely finished. Don't know the price offhand...

This bike has a very similar spec to the Bianchi Eroica, the main difference being the brakes and saddle. The Ene Ciclo hubs have a nice look but are in no way comparable to the finish and performance of an old Campy high flange unit. My only complaint with the Dia Compe crankset is that to date I have not found replacement rings for it! I wore the little ring out on my Bianchi Eroica in 2016 and ended up having to change the crank-set!

I think that the prices on these "classic tribute" bikes are mostly reasonable based on what other new bikes are available at this price point! You get a nice riding and complete bike for the price of an Italian made frame-set alone!

Hi
I can't PM you (but you can PM me) since I'm new here.
How did the build go with Alex? Why did you chose the Maris versus the Portofino? I'm looking at a build with them but am having trouble deciding among the various models and builders. I like the pure Italian frames.

What did you change the crankset to? I have an Eroica and really like it. Very smooth, responsive. I heard from the purists but it's the only Bianchi that is completely built in Italy and the parts are new. I think the steel bikes are so comfy. I have a Specialissima with the CV technology and while it is a fine bike it still rattles on the rough roads - nothing like the Eroica.
