You want to be careful with that refusal to wear a number:

EPS -- basically, Styrofoam -- is the thicker shock absorbing inner layer. Do keep solvents away from that.

But the outer harder shell is polycarbonate and/or Aramid/Kevlar, resistant to most mild solvents. A cotton swab moistened with Goo Gone won't cause any problems for removing stickers or adhesive residue from the outer shell. Goo Gone is sold in recyclable plastic containers.

Regarding the non-UV resistant paints mentioned by POC, it's almost certain powdered pigments mixed into the polycarbonate, not a surface layer. But some fugitive pigments will probably fade under sun exposure. I have a POC Omne Air Spin that's mostly white, with a hi-viz orange rear-facing shell. The orange will probably fade eventually. The white probably won't, or won't be noticeable.

I would have just left the number on the old helmet and used it as an excuse to buy a new one. Mmmmmm, new helmet....

Be careful with the alcohol near eps, it will melt that foam. believe it or not, lighter fluid has diluted naptha and it will take that glue off without damage.

Try wetting it down with some hydrogen peroxide. You can gargle with it so it shoiuld not affect your helmet.
