if i wanted to go back to middle school, id go for that.
How fearful should i be of taking my bike to a college? This college is in literally middle of no where, so im thinkin the odds of somebody stealing it and riding it back to town since its 4 miles from town. is low... unless they decide to be someone with a truck or such....

Get a beater bike, two ulocks, and a cable for the locks. You'll be fine with that.
Remember, locks keep honest people honest. If someone really wanted it, they'll find a way to get it.

Ok, I'll give you a non-wisecrack answer that is typical of BF. While there is a lot of variability in fitness levels and genetic potential, and we know nothing about you other than the fact you're in school, I'll assume you're a male under 25 years old and over 15 years old.
If you can ride solo for 20 miles on a fairly flat course and hold an average speed of about 18mph, you're doing pretty well for a typical rider your age. I suspect you'll be a lot closer to 16mph if not 15mph if you have no cycling experience riding these sort of distances. You have to use a bike computer and all stops count in your average speed, so choose something without too many stoplights.

Im making my first road bike purchase next month, and now that im back in school with a gym im gonna start working out and building my leg strength back up very shortly. My plan is to cut my car out of the picture on nice enough days and ride my bike to class. My issue is timing. Its about 15 miles one way and im wondering what i should try to do to make this a semi shorter ride to class.
Essentially im just tryin to figure out what a good goal i should set for myself in the month or so to train for my trek. if it makes any sence

Your fitness plays a huge role, and in all honesty, you won't make much difference in a month (but it is a good idea to start now anyway). But if you stick with it, you'll get faster. Traffic is a big deal too. Traffic controls will slow you down. But if you have open highway, you'll be able to go a lot faster.
I wouldn't horse around with driving part of the way. That will save you little time while drastically reducing the benefits of riding. I would worry about people messing with your bike as most student bikes are absolute crap and yours will be much better.

You don't want to sprint to class. Take it easy going maybe a sprint or so on the way home.
lock it up with a good quality bike cable and lock.

ok well my ride itself will actually have only 1 stop light, in the 15 miles of riding ill be doing, only 2 of it is on a public road way. 13 miles will be on a bike trail. (pretty convienent). so traffic will be very limited.. im 20 yrs old. in an okay shape.... my cardio definately needs help but my physic' is good, i could almost go to gain some weight haha

well the only reason guys go to school is to pick up girls, so what u wanna do is, ride to school in a showoff manner, dont go all out, cause then u will be sweaty and girls will be unnatracted. just cruise with your new bike and then do like 2 speed sprints near your school so everyone can see how fast u are, the ladies will be impressed aswell. make sure to buy all the new cycling gear, girls love that kind of stuff. hope this helps

Warm up for 5 minutes then make the jump to light speed. Make sure to drop out of hyper space with enough time for a 5 minute cool down period and a coffee before class.

What kind of crappy advice is that? Sweat should be dripping off his massive guads -- chicks dig that.

Since you are not in cycling shape, I can pretty much guarantee you'll be in significant pain for the first month if you ride 30 miles RT 5 days per week (it won't be nearly as bad if you ride fewer than 5 days).
You'll gradually get in shape, and after 6 months or so, you'll be in way better condition than when you started. After a year, you'll be addicted to the ride and significantly faster as well. After that, it's gravy all the way though improvement will come much more slowly.
