Of course wheelchairs can use bike lanes.
What are you afraid of? Do you really think you would even notice the occasional wheelchair?
There would be no enforcement of a rule banning them anyway.

Yeah sure, and make sure you use your Air Zound at those people with the little white canes with red tips that get in your way. They might just be faking and can see shapes and shadows after all. Must be nice to be such a sweetheart!

This type of rule would be used to determine fault in the event of a crash. If wheelchairs are technically banned from the bike lane, they would be assumed to be at fault in a crash. That said, I think that they should be allowed to travel in the bike lane/roadway. The sidewalk is not always suitable for use by disabled people, and they need to get around town just like everyone else. Like others in this thread, I'd prefer that they use lights, mirror, and follow the direction of travel for the road.

I would define whether a wheelchair is a pedestrian vs a vehicle based on speed.
If it travels at pedestrian speeds it belongs in the sidewalk -kinda like how kids learning to ride, and newbs on bikes belong on the sidewalk-
I don't mind the wheelchair being in my lane if it can keep up, can it? If not stay on the sidewalk.

I have no problem with wheelchairs in the bike lane. The handicapped are people too.
If I was to have a problem, that would make me just as bad as the idiots who tell me to keep my bicycle out of the road.

Saturday I saw a guy in a motorized wheelchair (not a scooter, a wheelchair) proceeding FRAP on a 4-lane 60kph arterial road. No sidewalks. Light traffic. Good visibility.
A cop was in the process of pulling him over. Not sure why.
