Great thread, and apropos for me right now. I am scheduled for a THR (right) in October about three weeks before my 69th birthday. Lots of encouraging words in this thread.

Saw a specialist last week who concluded I will need a hip replacement eventually after reviewing my MRIs and X-rays. Hip pain on my right side keeps increasing ever since a larbral tear I suffered about 2 years ago. Doctor said trying to repair the labral tear via surgery won’t help much due to other degeneration in the hip.
Biking isn’t too bad for my hip with my seat raised but everything else off the bike seems to be.
going to get a Cortisone shot next week and start PT. Time for a beer…

I’ve had them before on my neck and shoulder. I also recall the first ones working pretty well but subsequent injections having less effect.
I’ve also hiked parts of Yosemite and Mt Lassen. Great locations.

years ago rode with a guy that crashed hard - broke / dislocated hip - broke pelvis - shoulder - arm - etc
bad crash
he was in his 70's
had hip replaced and pelvis rebuilt with titanium plates
after rehab he initially struggled to swing his leg over a bike - even with bike laid over a significant amount
but less than a year later he was doing 40+ mile road rides
his surgeon was one of the pioneers of minimally invasive hip surgery
