1973. My (ill-fated) Lambert. 1977 I purchased and raced last year's Fuji Professional in the basement of the shop I worked at as a racer. Haven't bought a whole bike since and the only new frames were custom.

1982. I was 8 years old. I didn’t buy it, my dad did, but I did pick it out. A brand spanking new Mongoose BMX. Or was it a Diamond Back? Chrome frame with black trim... I think.
Wow, that was a long time ago lol

I have never bought a bike from a bike ship in Australia. Most of my bikes have been rescued from the trash. I repair them by swapping parts from one to the other.
I have bought bikes from bike shops in S E Asia. The last one was 2018. New bikes are less expensive in S E Asia.
With companies now selling bikes on the internet at fairly competitive prices, bike prices in Australia are becoming more like the pries in S E Asia.

Never bought a bike for myself...my then girlfriend (now wife) bought me a new Schwinn World Sport from the local Schwinn dealer in Media, PA. I still have it for sentimental reasons... She bought it for me after I got into an accident with my Kool Lemon Le Tour that had been my grandfathers.
I also bought my son a new Trek 820 for Christmas a few years ago when he first got into riding...thought it would be a good sturdy bike for him to learn on.
But I don’t feel sorry for myself, as I just found my used Grail Bike a few weeks ago...

1999 I bought a Gunnar Rockhound. When I stopped riding about 10 years ago it was on it's 3rd set of components and 2nd set of wheels. I could use some new wheels and parts myself.

2018, Cannondale was blowing out 2015 trail 2sl 29ers for a grand, half off msrp.
Since then I've bought 6 bikes from the bike shops for wife and kids so while not for me I benefit.

Wow, can't believe the only bike I purchased at a shop, as an adult was my Bridgestone X0-2 from long gone City Bike in Cleveland Ohio. It is fun when I run into anyone with a Bridgestone in the area as they inevitably got theirs from City bike also. That was early 1990's.
I was flipping bikes for a number of years, so I have a dozen or so bikes still around that were going to be projects to build up for myself. Even with that level of stock, I did buy a new bike from Nashbar about 5-6 years ago. Had it delivered to my in-laws in Florida where it gets heavy use one winter week a year. Great bike that was so cheap at the time, with stacked coupon codes and discounts, it did not make sense to ship an already owned in stock one down.

First time was 1988, and the last was 2008. A thirty year span, and I still have both.

When I was getting back into cycling in 1992, I purchased this 60cm Klein Performance as a frameset from Montlake Bicycles in Bellevue, WA. They kept trying to put me on a 58cm, but I insisted on the 60cm and mostly loved it for 11 years and over 35,000 miles. Wish I’d gone for the 62cm version to avoid these fit tweaks as I aged. My son still loves this one, and he’s less leggy/more flexible, not to mention waaay stronger - no triple crank required up PNW hills for him. That Chehalis paint still looks so deep and rich and gets compliments.

November 2018 - I purchased a Fuji Gran Fondo and I have to say that I do thoroughly enjoy riding that bike just as I do my steel steeds and my aluminum Cannondale.

June 2017, bought a Rocky Mountain Blizzard at a local bike shop. End of the season for fat bikes, 2016 Model.
Only real problem that I found with this purchase was the OE front tire. The Blizzard came with Vee Bulldozer tires. This is not a good choice for this bike, some of the reviews even pointed out that the Surly Bud was a much better choice for the front. This bike handles much nicer with Bud doing the steering.
Actual bike shop pic, not very good quality.

Last bicycle purchase from a bike store for me was in 2012. I bought a new Specialized Roubaix Elite from Mike's Bikes in Walnut Creek, CA. I still have it.

Never have I ever.
I tried once, could not afford an Ironman. 1986, around Christmas.
Ended up trading a Sansui CD player for a Trek 510, shorts, gloves, Bell helmet, and a jersey.
Ended up trading that away for a Yamaha CD player and some CD's.
Cycling was so silly, I just couldn't abide it. I liked music more.

Also “never have I ever” 🙂
Every once in a while someone will post about a dealer wheeling an old Trek or a Lotus or something out from a back room, dusts it off and asks for 200 bucks for it, and if that happens I’d be down.
I’m not holding me breath though.

1976, a new Motobecane Mirage. My first duty station after boot camp and I needed transportation. That started this whole mess. But I haven't bought another new bike since. Too many good deals on used bikes.

Old thread, old post. Go for it, business and owner of said, that card attached to, long gone. Maybe some one else has that MC number now, might get lucky. Penalty for 1st time credit card fraud is pretty light.

Missed this thread the first time around.
The last time I bought a new bike is 1988 in January. However it was the blue Pinarello frame in the shops window, does that count?
Full bike was spring of '86 a Panasonic DX 3000 (because I couldn't afford the IRONMAN). But A great bike to start my journey.

Home sweet home! Nice pic. I've bought two both mtb. 1988, 2001. Just gave the 2001 to my son. Hard to find the time for trail rides anymore and he was looking to get more exercise. Prefer riding my road bikes straight out of the garage.
