The SUN came out today. I forgot that we had one of those. Wow. That also means that it's clear, so the temperature is going to take a big nosedive. We might drop under 20F for the first time this year.
Huh. I lived in Fullerton for a bit. Used to ride down to Huntington Beach quite often - I had a car but the fun of driving the freeways wore off pretty quickly.

But any November day where the temp hits 40 and the sun shines is special. Wednesday is supposed to be sunny, or at least not cloudy, as well.

Cool, snowy and messy in some areas. For the most part, streets are snow free. The snow from the windrows (the pile of snow pushed to the curbside by plows) is melting and running onto the streets. For bikes, that's going to wreak havoc, in terms of cleaning one's bike. That having been said, the conditions have not stopped people from riding.

It still exists here, maybe not the same or at all in other dimensions...unless I'm just dreaming it.

Freezing around here. 65 during the day 50's at night. Should get a little warm up in a few days. I hope so, I'm almost ready to turn the heat on.

You know those glasses that make the colour blind see colour, it's so grey out here I feel I need one.

Guess what? Once again, we saw the SUN. I slept late, so I got to see it for maybe 4 or 5 hours.
You know how it goes...California gets really hot and really cold. At least, that's what I was told

We've had a few brief snow flurries over the last week that didn't accumulate, and it's sunny and above freezing today, so still on the bike.

Unseasonably warm. I don't ever recall it being this warm at this time of year for an extended period of time (last 3 weeks). Yes, the record high for the day was 12.8C back in 2011, but still... On the other hand, the record low was -28C back in 1985.
Oh well... The temps are quite comfortable for cytcling, so I'm not going to complain too much.

Normal weather decided to show up...finally! The temperatures were in the low 60s on Monday, and when I left for work this morning - 15F! We're supposed to get snow soon, too.
This of course means I now got my good bike parking spot back at the university where I work

We're about to have our first snow storm of the year. I don't ride my bike in the snow but I'll be out there in all it's glory. I'm going to buy some heated clothing this year like a vest and pant. I have a yard with garages in the back. Since I'm car free, I spend zero time digging out a vehicle.
Also, the lightrail works like a dream in the snow.

I live as far inland as you can get in Michigan, but even here we get some lake effect snow. Maybe 1/3 as much as they would get near here in Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids. But even one or two inches a day can add up over the month of December, when we get the most lake effect snow. The worst part is that it comes in the form of squalls--intense snow blowing in the wind that causes total whiteout and massive car crashes. (But generally not so bad for bike riding.)

Calm, cloudy, and 1-2 degrees below freezing. Getting on a plane early this afternoon for a 4 day consulting trip, and I looked in the garage and saw I have a flat bike tire, so I doubt if I will patch it up late Thursday night for the one day of commuting on Friday. Maybe I'll ride my backup bike if the streets are clear of ice when I get home, then get the regular bike up and running next weekend in the hope of a bit more December commuting. However, I might be done for the year if there is snow by then.

We have a "Where Do We Live?" thread, which we can continue posting to as well ...
https://www.bikeforums.net/living-car...o-we-live.html
But for this thread, I'm thinking more in terms of weather, environmental conditions, road surfaces, etc. to describe your local area.
What is it like where you are?
Does it affect your ability to be car-free or car-light?
Does it have an effect on your cycling?

...we got some early fall rain in NorCal, but it's been freakishly nice weather for the past three or four weeks, with clear skies and highs in the 60's and sunny during the day. If we don't get more rain soon, I'm gonna have to water some of the landscaping. On the upside, I've been clocking a lot of bike miles in the warm afternoons and evening hours. Cooler temps in the low 30's overnight have been perfect for ripening the citrus crop this year.
I kinda feel ripped off that I put fenders on a few bicycles, though.

Consulting in Northern Ontario. Debated whether to walk to work from the hotel, 1.75 km (1 mi.) at -17C (2F) - decided to go for it. Strong crosswinds made it quite unpleasant. Sun might have helped a bit, but it was behind me and I had my hood up so I'm not sure.

It's here: Snow. Oh yay. With the exception of the January thaw, we're probably stuck with it from now until March. And the stuff on the roads has already turned to brown goop...yuck!
I actually like the snow, but it showed up right when I had some time to do something other than work! Guess I'll just have to do a bit of slow exploring on the winter beater.

I'm at a hotel in Northern Ontario. I walked back from work last night at -13C and it seemed positively balmy after a -17C walk in wind, the day before. Today I will be riding in cabs to work and later to the airport as I will have my suitcase. However, when I land tonight I should be able to get from the downtown airport to home by public transit and walking. So far today -19C, overcast and gloomy here. Back in Toronto it is -13C which is pretty cold for there.

Like this ...but better because I'm in the U.S. and best because I'm in Texas. 4 miles from country roads. Downside is, high of only 60°.

Here in outskirts of Vancouver Canada it's -4 which is colder then usual and snow on the ground.
Roads are dry its been sunny. Yesterday did Xmas shopping on my bmx. Easy to get on skytrain.
Ended up riding one handed carrying two huge shopping bags and backpack right between two lanes of cars to be first in line for the left turn lane!
Merry Xmas!
