Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm ordering a set of Reynolds Assault carbon clinchers, and would love to see and hear how you are enjoying them. Post up some pics of your ride with a set of Assaults on it. I'll post one of mine as soon as they come in. Pretty stoked!

I am thinking about setting up a group buy. Please let me know what you guys would think would be a reasonable price to merit it. MSRP is $1299.99. I was thinking 1050 +30 shipping. please chime in. 5 Order min. Perhaps with 10 I can lower the price a bit more. Local pick up available if needed to save $30 shipping.
I figured that would be $250 Savings. I'm not sure if I can pull it off but I will certainly try.

well I believe I can set it up for shimano or campy based per customer needs. As for the hubs I believe reynolds uses a generic hub modeled after the DT240's that come with their higher end wheels. the spokes are not bladed but there are benefits to that. also they come 20/24 spoke count so would support most heavy cyclist as well (with in reason of course) I did get some emails in regards to the price and if we can drive it lower. perhaps but the quantity of wheels sold would have to go up. I will contact tomorrow and see what we can do.

I had the Attacks last season. Let's just say I hope they improved the design this time 'round.

I just picked mine up a few hours ago and finished setting them up. Initially, they look to be a very nice set of wheels. Both front and rear hubs are rolling very stiff, but a few hundred miles should loosen them up. The carbon hoops look great, with the shop (a non-stocking dealer) very impressed with the quality of the carbon finish.

Once again, they came in under spec in weight.

F: 665
R: 850

It was a +/- 5g scale, and they flickered between 660/665 and 845/850, so 1515 if you are pessimistic and 1505 if optimistic. Great job to Reynolds on that.

Initial ride report: Rain. Maybe tomorrow, but probably Saturday.

I can vouch for Vic. He set me up with a pair of assaults. Great service and even called me after I got them to make sure I was happy.

I, too, spoke with Vic. I ended up going local for a bit more money, but I would not have had a second thought about buying from Vic, based on our correspondence, had my shop not gotten me the wheels.

1st Ride Report....

I was able to get out and do 25 miles today before dark. I started with a high gear standing start to see if I could find a spoke that was wound up. I heard a very slight ping from one of the rear spokes and that was it. Not too bad.

The bearings loosened up, as expected and are very smooth now. The braking is just as good as my training wheels with the supplied pads. I didnt have a single squeal the whole ride. They do not break silently like an aluminum rim, obviously, but they are as quiet as any carbon rim I have heard. The wheels ride nice, but I was on very nice roads, so I cant really say what they do ride quality wise until I get onto some crappier asphalt.

The front wheel went ever so slightly out of true toward the end of the ride and the front brake became a bit grabby (barely perceivable). I will probably put another 100 miles on them to make sure all the spokes are settled in and then have them trued and retensioned.

It was super windy out, with swirling and gusting, well above 20 mph at times. The handling on them was fine....much more stable than my Hed 3's. Really, they weren't all that much worse than my RR1.1 rims.

So far, I am very pleased with my purchase. They ride just as nice as some 404's that I have ridden and I think that the braking is better. That is all for now. They will be heading to the mountains over memorial day for some real work.
