Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rode my first solo century in T-shirt, cut-off jeans, and tennies. Also had a full-Campy Legnano and toe clips, so that helped. Anyway, at least cut the legs off an old pair. That'll help. That center seam is really bad, though.

Commuting in cool weather or for rides under an hour I wear whatever I feel like. For summer or long rides I add cycling shorts either under another layer or on their own.

Aren't chaps "assless" pretty much by definition?

Yep. But calling them assless chaps sounds funnier to my ears. And I'm all about amusing myself.

The shorts under the jeans are amazing. I can ride all day with this setup.

I started getting into road biking right about when winter hit last year, and prior to that I just putted around on my old mountain bike (in big baggy jeans or sweat pants alot of the time)... so really I don't even know what its like to ride in just cycling shorts - or tights or anything... but I can say FOR SURE that having a pair of cycling shorts (or bibs) under the jeans/whatever kinda pants makes life so much better.

Skinny jeans look ridiculous on most people and does not look good on anyone. Young people should refrain from wearing them and old people like whooooooshie pants should be banned from coming within 20 feet of them.

I never went this route purposefully... but I lost alot of weight a while back and got new clothes, then over time I got the weight back on.

ANyway, I tried on some of the smaller jeans when I was bigger... and they fit like "skinny jeans".

How any man can function with such important parts screaming for circulation is totally beyond the scope of my understanding as a living entity. I wore said jeans out one time when I was on the border of too big for em and 99.9% of the time my hands were in my pockets to make space where I needed it most... and STAIRS... OWWW...

I always thought it was like this with cycling shorts or any sort of tights, but the breathable/stretchy fabrics are setup to keep things flowing properly while keeping things in place.

Skinny jeans look bad on everybody IMHO. Even good looking women. Nothing can compare to the old "Ditto's" and Jordace jeans of yesteryear for the fairer sex. Now yoga pants... they should be standard issue.

I wear a jersey and street shorts or street pants...but ones with smooth seams. I don't like lycra!

Jeans chafe your bung.

I also ride platform pedals with toe clips....on my Klein Quantum with Dura Ace.....

I wear my cycling tights as a base layer when I sail in cold weather, does that make me a bad person?
