Front end mounting of the beam is like a pivot. So you just use that middle mounting section that is slotted to raise or lower the beam. Has a pretty large range on it. I set mine up higher than normal unloaded because it does sag a bit when you mount it.

I'm not surprised that your performance was exceptional. The one I had (with Alsop stem) seemed to allow me to effortlessly keep up with a pretty fast much younger off road group.

That's an interesting one, that is some cool looking stiletto fork. I have a custom Columbus Softride and an aluminum PowerCurve. These things are weird but strangely fun to ride. Nice photo of Stieda, local hero.

Bikestash4184 cool find. Looks like you've got a spare beam, which is a huge bonus, since beam hardware is getting really difficult to find these days.

Who made yours? Hard to say: Allsop/SoftRide built their own frames, but there were a number of bikes constructed and sold by other builders, utilizing the SoftRide beam, Ritchey and Bianchi as well as a handful of independent frame builders.

AFAIK, the "factory" bikes were all TIG, and yours appears to have a lugged headtube, and doesn't look like the small dropouts they used either. So, probably an "indie" bike
The paint job and TRI gear has me thinking Land Shark.
Got a picture of the BB / SN#?

Peter Koskinen on the Facebook group was a former rep and has LOTS of softride parts.

Comotion tandem sells the eye bolt.

You do not want to use STI shifting on a Softride--front derailleur mounts were grossly mislocated and many have incurable chsin dropping. Not the case with Co Motion, Otis Guy, and other custom bikes with the beam, just with aluminum Softride-branded frames.

Most all of the tube-frame bikes I've run across (Powercurve-style) have had clamp-mount FDs, so it's never been an issue. They're just like DF bikes from the waist down.
Now, the "Wing" bikes; they're a whole different animal.

Like this

Picked this up for a back-up beam but have not been able to punch out the mounting pin no matter what I try.

Yeah, those are what I was thinking of.
