Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pissing Out of the Saddle

I've finally concluded that the best way (for guys) to "drain a vein" while road cycling is to find a remote, straight stretch of country road, get to a point where there's plenty of road visible both in front and in back of you, then just pull over to the side, unclip and stand up straight, look both ways to make sure no cars are coming, unzip and let 'er rip. (Obviously, you don't "unzip," but it rhymed, so I took artistic license).

That is all.

There's a photo of a group ride doing this (probably over in Europe somewhere) floating around this board, which is what inspired me. What I used to do was find a suitable place, then park the bike and sneak off into the woods to do the deed. But then it's pretty obvious what you're up to. This way, if anyone comes along, you can pretend you're messing with your ipod or looking at the map.

Why are you so concerned about someone knowing you are peeing?

Is there something we should know?

Actually, what "precipitated" this unfortunate thread is that there's a couple of feet of snow covering my normal pit stop, along with every other suitable place along the road, so I didn't have much choice. Had to McGuyver it, and in the process found what I think is probably a better approach all around.

But no, I don't really care what anybody knows or thinks they know about me.

So, I might not be understanding this in it's entirety. Are you explaining to us how to stand in a field and urinate? Unless this post was written by a very gifted two-year-old child, I am scared for our society.

Then again, maybe I overestimated the human race and I am actually the only grown man who knows how to stand and piss into a field. If that is the case then OP, please - by any means necessary - begin spreading the word on how to stand and piss into a field! This is valuable information that men all over the world, since the dawn of ****ing time, have figured out, but perhaps the members of BF need a little help.

In addition, I want to thank you for restoring my faith in BF. Just when I thought the posts could not be any dumber, you go and do something like this - and totally redeem the forum!

I've been urinating since the day I was born. I'm pretty sure I never thought about it this much.

Mine seems to work even if I'm crouched over a little bit...

Depends on whether you wear underwear under your shorts or bibs.

Out in AZ a few folks have been ticketed for 'indecent' exposure by the local sheriff.
Yup, it went to court and sheriff had picked on the wrong guy to ticket . . . he was a local attorney.
When's the last time you exposed yourself to a coyote or javelina?
With bike club we have made 'pit stops' in the desert . . . gents on the left, ladies on the right . . .
There's no places for mega miles at times to relieve yourself. When you gotto go, you gotto go!

This is another example on how women get a raw deal. No way a woman can do this without dismounting, AFAIK.

Of course, the "secret" womens forum may have its own mysterious solutions, but we guys are not allowed in there.

I think the point was to go when you are riding...maybe more specifically while racing. I know that I have had to hold it for longer than I would have liked while in a race because I could not whip it out properly without being dropped hard. I should practice..
