And, what's wrong with Leisure Suits? Once worn, they still made good work clothes, even as a barn jacket.

You just described the vast majority of cyclists from what I can tell. Embrace it. If you like the jersey, wear it.
I wear high-vis stuff all the time, which I think is very Fredly (but less Poser), but it makes my wife happy because she worries about cars running me over. I could care less what others think about my attire.

US Postal = United States post office - I have no problem supporting the US government by wearing that jersey.

It's never going to be cool so just wear it knowing that you and the other five guys are the only ones who'd wear one. Seriously, doesn't matter what others think. The kit just got a bad name because people would also buy a Trek Madone and do their Peloton imitation in the middle of the road.

You bought the jersey for a reason, so wear it with pride and don't give a stuff about what anyone else thinks.
I met a cyclist on the weekend done up in the FULL Livestrong kit - jersey, knicks, socks, shoes and helmet (Bike wasn't a Trek though but still black and yellow), and I thought mmmmmm! Frediculous! Then I got taking to him on the ride and found out that he has lost several family members to Cancer and wants to make every day he gets out on the bike a day to support Cancer research. If we think that Livestrong is not worth supporting, then how come we all know about it.

A guy I know rode up next to a rider decked out with the full us postal kit, riding along with the trek bike too, but just an inexpensive alu model.
he asked him something stupid as I could imagine plenty of folks on here would too and the rider turned to him and said everyday, It's my job.
it was Matt White.

So true! Some people have created a whole hierarchy of what's cool and what's not with cycling clothes, but to the general public, we all look like ******bags

It will be "cool" when only knowledgeable people know its significance. Given the magnitude of Armstrong's celebrity, I think it will take a long time for that, perhaps 30 years post Armstrong's final retirement.
Like wearing a Molteni jersey today.

I would seriously consider leaving it your will to your childrens' children. It will one day be worth a small fortune.

99% of the US population thinks you look completely asinine in any "kit," so why worry about what the other 1% think?

Maybe 30.
We'll see when we get there.
Look, son, now that all your Fred peers have come forth and filled your head with all that politically correct crap, here's the deal.
It's ok to admire LA, everybody does. But in road cycling the last thing you want to do is give the impression you're soft, weak. That's the impression you'll be giving if you wear a US Postal or Discovery jersey.
It just shouts out to the road biking community "Hey Everybody, I'm a Groupie, I Have No Individuality, No Self-Respect, No Self-Determination Other Than To Go Out And Imitate A Superstar As Closely As I Can".
Sure it's a nice design. Very pretty. I like it too. But there are dozens and scores of nice designs out there. Why do you want to wear one that says "Look Everybody, I'm An LA Groupie"? Eeeeeeww YUK!!

As I read your reply all I see is blah,blah,blah...... This comming from a Groupie with a BIG Blue Star as his avatar......
Why do you want a big blue star as your avatar that says"Look Everybody,I'm A Big Blue Star Groupie"?
