Correct me if I'm wrong, but those look like Reynolds 531 "rapid taper" chainstays on yours, am I right?

Untrue, you may not be doing it correctly.

They are the coolest most correct C+V SP ever.

One of these should have nothing else.

Never understood this, so many, so easily foiled, AND they choose to blame it on the hardware.

The precise adjustment is unmatched by any in its class.

I never struggled with these even in the beginning, my first was a skinny rail version bought by convincing Mom I needed more SP as I had grown, and the bike was small a bit small to begin with. It was on sale for half off and I found out why trying to force a very tough Japanese Seamless saddle into it. Got it in and never looked back, Campy 2 bolt, don't leave home without it.

The campy single bolt seatpost can be hard to tighten enough to keep the saddle from tilting (ask me how I know). I have one campy single bolt seatpost that was factory retrofitted (apparently) with a helicoil/ allen bolt that does not slip or tilt.

I think you're right, Kurt, but I had to look that up to figure out what 531 Rapid Taper was. Definitely no crimps, round the entire length of the tube, and the transition to skinny is fairly rapid.

Good eye!

Sounds about right! No crimps, and a drastic taper just past the chainring. A very striking design, though easy to overlook.

LOL, at 63 with 40+ yrs riding mostly Campy I opt for simplicity and a set of minimal tools that I can always fit into my seatbag. The One bolt Campy seatpost is more accessible, always secure, sharing with other parts the 6mm Allen key.

I don't keep a bike at my father's, but Raleigh is still home, and know the roads west and north. Your RTP looks like its in good [paint] condition. I don't think it's as late a 1979[oops post says '74 footer suggests '79], as the same frame [almost] was done in Red with Black and Yellow for about 4 yrs, starting some time around 1975. What's the serial #, on the BB shell? What's the assembly mounting the front brake? When I bought mine[painted as yours] 26 yrs ago some previous owner had inexpertly drilled the fork where a brake attaches. I also have one of the RYB models.

There is no "supposed to" for a bike that's ridden, only for vintage or antique collectors. That said, when one passes it on to the next owner it seems only right to pass along as many of the original parts as possible.
When get my RTP foto posted you'll see the 2-bolt that has been there for all 26 yr I've owned mine, except the last 3 week.

Well you are of course entitled to your opinion but on a bike as iconic as a Raleigh Pro track, it is in the opinion of myself and many here absolutely "supposed to have" the original iconic Campy 2 bolt SP that has proven itself over decades of use, millions of miles and countless race wins that would have destroyed many of the lesser substitutes.

Nevermind the skewed aesthetic without it.

Who elected you Pope of aesthetics? This afternoon I did my 70km hilly ride on my RTP, as I have it set up. 49x15 . Not a race, not on the track, not noodling around, but climbing hills, working hard, riding it like a road bike, with its own minimalist aesthetic.

Glad you're getting some good use out of it, skewed, minimalist road aesthetic and all, on a track bike, carry on.

As set up is not a track bike, front brake, dual levers, lights, seatpack, roadbars, though it could be someday returned to that form.

preppng for the 200k, still changes ahead. Fork drilled inexpertly by some prior owner

Looks like a fixed gear rando bike. And that is a good thing to see. My longest fixed ride has been was a flat 120k a couple years ago.

Tape? LOL. Got 8-10[Vetta branded] in an EBAY buy some 15 yrs ago, probably then already old. Now with the the last two the clear celo packaging is yellowed, while the tap still durable and stretchy.

I ride 'road' 55k to 80k mostly, with some longer rides. Even as I was slow to get out this Spring I did the Cranbury 200k on April 24, a mix of windy beach flats, and rolling hills, with one real hill with some 6-8%, all in 49x15

it was an 80's thing. Thank goodness that decade finished.
But Miami Vice was fun for one season.
