Yesterday I rode about 7.5 miles to church, mostly on the Greenways trail but some quiet streets also. I found this fake white rose in the storm drain and scooped it up, inspired to keep drains clear in light of all the flooding in NYC.

It gets better the longer you look at it. The external cupholder for the Slushee! I'm even more impressed someone spent that time building it to take it to the track.

How weird is this, yesterday I found a 10mm open box wrench! Didn't need one, but I took it anyway.

Found a fully grown snapping turtle yesterday too, parked in the middle of the road, since those things can bite off fingers I just left it there, it stood a good chance of getting hit by a car, but their not rare around my neck of the woods.

Not weird at all.

10mm is one the most common size bolts and nuts on bikes and cars; hence, one of the most common sizes for people to use, to carry, and also to lose. For instance, my bike front and rear brake calipers and also rear rack have 10mm bolts and nuts, that I keep tightening and adjusting quite often. I have a big Crescent mechanic toolset that comes with all sizes of sockets, including 10mm, but an extra 10mm socket or wrench doesn't hurt, so you don't have to take one out of the mechanical toolset and worry about losing it. Oh well! I kept this one I found on the road in my bike kit.

Bungee Cord. It is not really tidy with the dirt and grime from the street, but the things I am going to tie with it to my rear rack are not tidy either.

I used to ride to my job as a vineyard manager. The first year we had a harvest we couldn't afford to net for protection from birds so used various bird scaring tactics without much success. One morning as the grapes were ripening I came across a road kill hare a couple of kms from the vineyard. I picked it up buy the ears and held it hanging from the end of the bars.
​​​​​​ The drivers in the morning traffic gave me some VERY strange looks.... When I got to the vineyard I laid the hare out in one of the rows and it was found by a hawk who then hung around most of the day scaring birds "naturally"

I found a watch, I picked it up, it was working with no scratches on it, just a cheap digital watch, cleaned it up and gave it my youngest grandson, he likes it.

Where I ride I will run over a field of broken glass on the side of a highway I sometimes have to ride on, that glass goes on for miles till I get into the city limits, then it's all clean from there on in. I use Clear Motion Rhinodillo liners, they work much better than Mr Tuffy and they're lighter in weight. But they make tires today a lot better than they did 20 plus years ago, I'll run through that glass and rarely even slightly cut the rubber! Whereas before I would have sliced up tires. On my touring bike I use Schwalbe Almotion tires and I've been riding that same highway to get someplace, for several years, not even a slight cut; on my road bike I'm using Specialized Roubaix Pro tires and so far just a couple of nicks, but they're wearing out so next season I'm going to try something a lot different, and going with Vittoria Pave CG Open tubular tires I bought, I got those tires for less than 1/2 the retail price, with latex tubes and the Rhinodillo liners to see how they'll hold up, I also want to see how plush the ride will be vs what I currently use. I figured for $20 a tire, so what if they only last a season!

I found a $20 bill! Then I saw another $20 bill. Then I found a phone. All of these were within about 50 yards. As I was picking up the phone it rang and agreed to meet them nearby. I asked it they had money with the phone and they said yes so I gave them the $40 as well...then they got angry at me and said "There was $80!! WHERE'S THE REST!" They got pretty mad at me when I said that's all I saw. I suggested they go look for the rest, but they accused me of taking it and left in a huff.

Right, you took the money, and then because you're so stupid, you took the phone and the $40 back thinking they wouldn't miss the other $40, good grief. Next time just take all the money, leave the phone, and split the scene.
