ETA. I think it’s worth doing just because BFers love(!) hating on Denalis.

For all the hate, I don’t know if I’ve ever read, “Before you get that, I have an extra road bike with flat pedals. Why don’t you just show up, I’ll adjust it for you. We’ll go on a simple ride so you can see if you like road bikes.”

I even have a nice Tange full chromed sloping crown fork that would look very 'Italian' on just such a bike
