Dreams and hyperbole about flying cars just around the corner have transformed into dreams and hyperbole about the imminent arrival of practical autonomous vehicles and its impact on transportation and society, but this time around there are lots of venture capitalists and speculators willing to throw billions of dollars at the dream and social media types with click bait headlines (instead of monthly magazine covers) to keep up the hype.

That picture was drawn in 1952. Back then, just about everyone smoked. They had cigarette commercials on TV. Doctors smoked, in their offices, and maybe even in the operating room. I agree it's not a good view of the future, but just recognize the era it was drawn in.
Phillip Morris was a major sponsor of the I Love Lucy show. Ricky, and other characters in the show, smoked constantly.

Personally, I can't wait for drivelines to move to the other side, as depicted in the illustration. My stash of left-handed freewheels will then be worth millions...MILLIONS, I tell you!!!

I'm particularly fond of the Military-Industrial-Complex warning that wasn't. The MIC term was used by Eisenhower in his farewell address (worth listening to,
