Dreams and hyperbole about flying cars just around the corner have transformed into dreams and hyperbole about the imminent arrival of practical autonomous vehicles and its impact on transportation and society, but this time around there are lots of venture capitalists and speculators willing to throw billions of dollars at the dream and social media types with click bait headlines (instead of monthly magazine covers) to keep up the hype.

Watch old TV shoes, especially from the 50s, and you are right, just about everyone smoked.

Phillip Morris was a major sponsor of the I Love Lucy show. Ricky, and other characters in the show, smoked constantly.

Personally, I can't wait for drivelines to move to the other side, as depicted in the illustration. My stash of left-handed freewheels will then be worth millions...MILLIONS, I tell you!!!

Well, you know you're old when you wax sentimental about a president from over 50 years ago. But I like Ike, too so I guess I'm in the same category.

I'm particularly fond of the Military-Industrial-Complex warning that wasn't. The MIC term was used by Eisenhower in his farewell address (worth listening to,
). Some have said that an earlier version of the speech used a term Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex, but his advisors had him take Congress out of it. Whether that story is apocryphal or not, a lot of what President Eisenhower warned us about has come to pass.

The smart people are too busy inventing financial products and collecting data to manipulate all the people. The latter is basically just marketing so the author got a big part right.

We're not entirely there yet, but it's certainly heading in that direction.

And the 1960s: Mad Men.

I kinda work in that field, and I don't think AV's are coming particularly soon.
