There was talk in the industry back in the late 80's of the possibility of helmet manufacturers changing over to LBDs in order to increase the integrity of their product. This idea was squashed due to the fact that the LBD made the helmet almost bomb-proof and would ultimately result in a large reduction in helmet sales. It would have aided riders immensely but would have crippled the helmet industry so they decided to stick with the IMD (Inferior Manufacturer Decal) sometimes called ISD (Inferior Stock Decal)... depends on which coast you're on.

False. The idea behind a helmet is that is it soft enough to absorb most of the impact of a crash. The use of lbd's would've made the helmet completely rigid and thus useless in a crash, as all impact energy would be transferred to the skull. They later discovered semi-lbd's, but they were expensive to manufacture, essentially killing the idea of lbd-powered helmets.

Oh you conspiracy theorists... I'd bet you think the oil industry has a car engine that runs on water that they're keeping under wraps too.
The helmet industry took LBD helmets off the market because of liability concerns from users who may unknowingly remove the LBDs. It had nothing to do with making the helmets bomb proof...

that's why I carry duct tape .. it'll get you a couple of miles if your LBD gets damaged. I'm going to invent load bearing duct tape that will make me millions.

You'd never be able to get it off when it's ready to be released the adhesive on duck tape is extra super strong due to it having to stick to duck feathers.
