It would have aided riders immensely but would have crippled the helmet industry so they decided to stick with the IMD (Inferior Manufacturer Decal) sometimes called ISD (Inferior Stock Decal)... depends on which coast you're on.
False. The idea behind a helmet is that is it soft enough to absorb most of the impact of a crash. The use of lbd's would've made the helmet completely rigid and thus useless in a crash, as all impact energy would be transferred to the skull. They later discovered semi-lbd's, but they were expensive to manufacture, essentially killing the idea of lbd-powered helmets.

And thus, the saga of the LBD continues. Due to the Internet not being as accessible in the 80's, I can understand how industry info could become clouded and confused. I can only imagine the expense, especially on the R&D side of the manufacture of semi-lbd's. I doubt that even with today's technology that a viable semi-lbd could be created economically.

Oh you conspiracy theorists... I'd bet you think the oil industry has a car engine that runs on water that they're keeping under wraps too.

The helmet industry took LBD helmets off the market because of liability concerns from users who may unknowingly remove the LBDs. It had nothing to do with making the helmets bomb proof...

Was it not Richard Nixon who took the semi LBD off production?

Where do you think the Nixon fork came from?

It's a fact that the LBD on a 20mm fork is twice as thick as a standard QR.

You can only use Load Bearing Tools to remove Load Bearing Decals.

Sum it up: LBT's remove LBD's.

Or you can have your LBS do the LBDs with the LBTs - the LDSs do it all the time.

Only if your LBS employs certified LBMs - Load Bearing Mechanics.

Oh! Well all I know is my bearings had too much load so the load bearing decals holding them disintegrated.

I thought it was Ralph Nader. Didn't he say the semi LBD was unsafe at any speed?

that's why I carry duct tape .. it'll get you a couple of miles if your LBD gets damaged. I'm going to invent load bearing duct tape that will make me millions.

edit ... oh wait I wasn't supposed to let that leak on a public forum... I'm ruined.

Shoulda used the duck tape instead. Seals the leaks on ducks pretty good.

You'd never be able to get it off when it's ready to be released the adhesive on duck tape is extra super strong due to it having to stick to duck feathers.

I cover all the bases: I carry a bit of duct tape and I carry a spare jar of Duck's for the occasional trailside chips-and-salsa emergency - -
