Every time I go to the carport to select a bike for a ride...

It's your wife. It's not the number of your bikes. It's Cyclist OCD. We all have it to some degree.

Well, although riding is a healthy & happy thing, loving companionship trumps riding by a significant margin.
After angst, I've decided to:
1. Part out the Nishiki road bike - The frame is too large for me anyway, and the components (aftermarket, by the previous owner) are excessively high quality for the pedigree of the frame.
2. Sell the Electra cruiser 7-speed - I'll miss the big lug, but maybe I can put some similar tires on my Townie coaster brake & have the same ride
3. Build the Raleigh road bike with the fancy parts from the Nishiki and use it for longer distances only
The remaining rides in the stable will be:
Townie coaster brake, Townie 3-speed, Wife's Townie 3-speed, and the Raleigh road bike. This will suffice until I stumble into a recumbent.
So "Hi - My name is FarHorizon and I'm NOT an addict!" LOL

Wait - all you really have to do is move the extras to some spot where you won't see them, when you select a bike in the carport. Out of sight, out of mind, no need for immediate maintenance.
I have tried this. It didn't work - she already has an in-house mechanic and all of these bikes and parts. Better to put one of the bikes to work for wife maintenance.
I'm a little confused. You have more so many bikes that you are not finding time to ride because of the maintenance and you also have a wife. No need to divest yourself of her. Put her to work on bicycle maintenance. True, you would have to spend a little time training her, but it would be time well spent.

Having decided to divest specific bikes has helped. Now, knowing that I won't have those around after a while, I find myself doing "goodbye rides" on the ones I've decided to cull.
When I have time (this weekend?), I'll wash & polish all the losers, photograph them, and put them on CL. Adios, faithful friends!
