Wow - the carbon bits from China are starting to look pretty impressive

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I would take a Bikes Direct Motobecane Ti bike over a Merlin any day. Better bike, better chance of getting a warranty issue resolved.

I thought yours was a used Spectrum? I know Tom Kellogg use Merlin Metal Works to build his Ti frames but I would imagine he would stand behind his work if one was the original owner.

Spectrum Ti road bikes are Merlins. I was not the original owner however. Still, the friggin frame was 4-5 years old. Never should have detonated. That was the end Merlins for me.

I'm just throwing that out there because I thought this thread wasn't far enough off track yet.

With a Chinese company, you get nothing. Its not even worth pursuing because everyone knows you will get nowhere with the Chinese authorities.
If you are worried about warranty and aftermarket services, obviously these frames aren't for you. A lot of complaints and paranoia are understandable, but one thing though, these are mostly from people who haven't purchased these. Thoes rbr threads have plenty of positive reviews.

Yeah, most of the people who've actually purchased them like them, although they haven't all been without issues. Still, I'm going to buy one I think. I'd like to get both of the ones I posted but can't justify the extra $$$ for the TT.

When talking about frame construction if you mention drawing it will refer to metals. The process associated with carbon is weave. No one would say they draw their own carbon.

If you were talking to a frame factory and were tossing around the word 'drawn' everyone in the room would assume you were talking about a steel/alloy frame and NOT a carbon frame.

How is that semantics? It's a technical description of a process that is very specific.

My point was that Giant actually fabricates the carbon from "scratch". What other bike manufacturer does that? Not Cervelo, Colnago or Pinarello. None that I am aware of which makes them the authority in CF.

Go back in this thread.

There is a video posted of TIME weaving their own carbon.

There are others who do the same.

Your information is OUTDATED.

Giant makes very good bikes.

Santa bought one for my son for Christmas.

Are we done?

Frames look good..but a big part of the performance is how the carbon tubes are tuned. This you can only tell by riding. Top companies use a lot of rider feedback to get adequate stiffness, road feel, and the like. Unlikely that these frames have that kind of rider input..but they do look cool.
