Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Mine is a short hill not far from home so I've been hitting it at the start of my rides on days I'm feeling fresh. I think I can squeak it out if I can hit it on a day with no wind or a tailwind which is not common since it usually blows the other way. It always seems windy here.

A teammate of mine is a shameless Strava troll and moved to my part of town in the last 6 months. He also considers himself a "TT specialist" and goes out to troll segments I've created on his TT bike when the winds favor him. He also happens to be fairly strong, which is annoying.

Not only do I get regular emails from Strava about segments I've made near my house being taken by this guy, he also sends me text screenshots of his ride achievements. I don't even bother going out to try to get them back.

People enjoy Pixar movies because, out of the gate, Pixar realized that they had to appeal to the adults that were bringing the kids to the theater. As such, there's a very good mix of grown up humor that's slid in to their films and there are themes that can be discussed in more depth.

I feel like I've had fewer than 5 rides this season that weren't blustery. Then again, maybe it's just that I'm out of shape.

Most of those CRs still stand; I should go back and snag a few that I lost now that I live closer again.

When we were camping last month and I went on my ride around the state park area I hit a category 4 gravel hill that looked challenging. It ended up being a dead end and was so steep and sketchy I actually walked back down a good part of it instead of riding.

I made it a segment and I'm still the KOM. Don't flag me, bro!

https://www.strava.com/segments/12166897

That turned out to be a really hilly area. I can see why Whitewater State Park is a state park. You couldn't build anything substantial or farm (much) there due to the hills.

Yep, let's look at that quote again, but picture it posted by a person in the context of a comments section under an article about a politician they don't like who rides a bike.

I rode a bike in elementary, but I sure am not into that anymore.

The answer is because everyone seems to be a manchild these days. Just look at how many people seem to play on the bikes on the weekend. You're no longer 12, time to move on.
Also, Pixar is enjoyed because not only did they add humor for the adults, but they also avoided "Idiocracy" style humor of bathroom/getting hit in the nuts jokes like lots of other animated movies do.

Best part is that seeing young people on bikes is a bit of a rarity nowadays. It's mostly old-timers playing KOM on their wunderphones.

Also, I am still in school and currently live with eight cats, so I don't think I'm particularly good at being an adult.

I dunno, man - it's takes a special kind personality to be one of those just-barely-socially-redeemable people. You're probably too even-keeled to be small-doses obnoxious. Probably.

The correct term is "crazy cat lady". The "old" part is implied.

I'm a firm believer that having a creative outlet is a good thing. I also believe that skilled/practiced hands are less common these days, so maybe these coloring books make a bit of sense in that light.

Yup. Is it any worse than dabbling in piano (or any other musical instrument) as an adult? Or, say, being a completely hack amateur photographer (speaking of me here, not you)? Or riding horses, or playing chess, or or or...

I mean, what are the "acceptable" diversions for adults, if any? Why those?

Creative outlet is key. I know that's especially true for me and building bikes tend to scratch that itch. That's why I keep my opinions to myself on the coloring books. It seems like an especially strange, and definitely child-like, trend to me but I get that people like it and it's a way to relax, so I can't really fault them for it.

It's easy to differentiate. You just pick the things you enjoy and those are great. Everything else is childish and a waste of everyone's time. I mean, the whole world would be better if everyone was jut like me, right?
