Yeah, I like it much better this way (with a 'regular' hardshell seat and OSS). I still have the old seat (complete with astroturf) and USS assembly, so the purists won't yell at me. I could always put it back the way it was. But it's not likely while I own it.
Right now, it rides and handles an awful lot like the Musashi that I had for a few years. The Wishbone is stiffer though, and my impression is that it might climb a bit better than the Moose.

New to me 2004 Burley Django
I am new to recumbents. Purchased this 2004 Burley Django earlier this month on CL for $200. I was not shopping for or even thinking about owning a recumbent. This just caught my eye and it sounded cheap enough. I was familiar with the Burley brand as my wife and I have a Burley Duet Tandem. Photos show how it looks after a good detailed cleaning. Bike shows very little wear. I think it's a keeper.
I got out for several small rides today. All total about fourteen miles. Much more comfortable with riding it at the end of today then when I first got on it this morning. It warmed up to forty degrees today with little wind. Our season up here in Maine is quickly coming to an end but hope to get out once or twice more before winter arrives.

I own a modern steel framed road bike, a hybrid bike for commuting in the city, a mountain bike, and two folding bikes, but have never had any experience with recumbent. Now I want to DIY one based on my design below. I have access to Auto CAD, 3-D printing, CNC milling, and TIG welding. This project is going to be a big challenge for me because I have no experience working on titanium. I have been riding traditional road bikes for over thirty years, therefore, I will exclude bikes with long chain, long wheel base, low head tube angle, stick frame.

From what little I know of titanium, you can forget bending it like that. What alloy are you planning on using? Standard Ti6Al4V? I don't know if 425 is generally available. "No experience" must mean no previous experience trying to ride a moving bottom bracket. I predict exciting times.

I will use 3Al2.5V alloy. If the main frame tube cannot be bent, I will have to use two sections to join together. But the shop manger told me that we should bend the tube first, then roll it into oval cross-section to increase vertical stiffness. Bending the boom tube and the rear stay should not be a problem. The design is similar to cruzbike S40. I am short with x-seam 38", therefore, need to raise the seat height a little. If this bike is ridable, I will build the next one with back rest angle 20 degrees. I weigh 55 Kg, therefore, don't need hefty tubing. The design parameters are very similar to my road bike's, forget about those super long wheel base and low head tube angle. I will go to Taiwan in March and purchase wheels and drive trains there, and order Thor seat from Poland.
The prepared mind leads to favorable chances.

Have you ever ridden a Cruzbike S40 before deciding this is the design to go with?
Combining the steering and power input on a recumbent is somewhat steep of a learning curve vs other recumbent designs; not to mention the somewhat tall seat height and short x-seam.
I'd advise for your first recumbent attempt, test ride something that has stable handling, LWB and low seat height to get a feel whether you like the recumbent riding position, before trying something that's SWB and advanced in steering/power input design.

Pedal steer is the most beautiful thing in a MBB. The true meaning of the words is: you can ride the bike with pedal steer and with no hands.

It looks nice so far. Waiting to see it once it's complete. 1150mm - 45" - is about in the middle ground for highracer wheelbases. What is the WB of this one?

My new-to-me Tandem...
It has been approx 5 yrs since I've been on this forum and after a quick visit, I can honestly say that I have missed it. In an effort to get back on the road and include my wife in my activities, I have added this to the herd...I have only taken a short maiden voyage after the purchase (alone). I will wait until I get a lil more comfortable on it before I introduce the Mrs. - So far, it is lots of fun and very comfy. It has independent peddling...I only hope she stays awake on the back
