Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes should come with decent paint jobs especially if you're going to spend a lot of your money on a bike. IMO - If it doesn't look good, it matters not how good the components are because chances are you're less likely to take it for a ride.

I would have preferred a more interesting color, and one which wasn't the same as so much of my clothing, but they adopted Henry Ford's philosophy on this model. At least the top tube is shiny.

The industry has already successively convinced the buyers that the dull unfinished bikes are "cool" . The fishing rod companies have pulled off the same dull is the" latest and greatest" scam. Who would have guessed that a bicycle costing many thousands of dollars could be sold without a decent finish.
As long as the products sell nothing will change till another cost saving idea comes up.

Not sure how it's a scam. Paint's heavy, man. I'll take the extra 100-200+ grams of weight savings on my matte carbon bike.

Besides, you can always paint your own bike if you're that bothered by it.

That's your opinion.

Mine is a satin finish and I like it. It cleans up easily and looks good, even when dirty.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk or anything, I'm just new to cycling and although I'm used to seeing deep section wheels, I've never seen a road bike with such a deep profile.
Looks like a Formula 1 tire

Having to deal with carbon almost all day I can say that I hate the matte finish. Have since it was introduced. I had a bike painted up matte many years ago and within the day it was stained with grease, etc. It's just stupid. Kind of like a handlebar bag on a road bike.

Oh no problem as all good here.. Yes no idea on how practical or if they make me any faster but I do have about 10 sets of high end carbon wheels along with three full rear disc wheels. I never ever get into any sparring contest about wheels with anyone as no one will ever change or alter my buying plans..I really only did not understand your comment..ALLLL GOOD from NW Ohio

We all have our choices with our cash and thats all that matters.. No one on a online forum is going to sway my opinion on what I buy one bit... What you shell out your cash on is your choice.....

I find it strange you think my comment was some sort of reflection or advice for you. I was simply stating my thoughts. I think it's stupid, played out and ugly at this point. As for how people spend money I couldn't care less. I sell matte finished wheels and decals near daily. I don't think the people buying them are stupid. I think the finish is stupid. In the same way that people like different colors on things.

The number of black decals on black rims that I have done over the years....I'm sure I get the same feeling as someone who has to paint sports cars red all day long.
