Larry is lucky.

I've had seat rails break and one seatpost. Not something I wish on anyone. Not something to mess around with, even going slow (say 16-18mph), one can get very hurt in a crash.

Precisely. Not sure what it’s going to take for the cycling community to finally wake up to the fact that seat posts just aren’t safe no matter what the material is.

One wonders why someone (op) couldn’t trim the jagged sections off the pieces of that seat post, find an appropriate section of metal tubing maybe electrical conduit and glue the pieces back together with the tube inside using something like Flex Seal?

One absolutely could do that. No question. I could also put my thumb on the bench and hit it with a framing hammer.

People sometimes get hurt or killed riding bikes. It's not a safe sport. Everyone should stop riding bicycles immediately.

Kinda like football. My Mother always told me "if you have to wear a helmet, you probably shouldn't be doing it."

We have yet to discuss the pros and cons of using wood as a material for a seatpost. It's cheap, strong and an insulator (for those with eBikes). Broom handles seem to be about the right diameter, and easy to sand down (although no one ever sands seatposts, eh?) or to bulk out with a turn or two of duct tape.

I cant understand why manufacturers havent investigated this option. ;-)

so I claim copyright!

If you can see the hatched line, then it's too far out. The other numbers are there just to make it easier to adjust the post height.

Way ahead of you. Fooling around in the bike shop one day back in the '80s, I discovered that rubber-coated Yakima car-top bike carrier crossbars fit perfectly into 27.2 seat tubes. I remember that whenever I see fixies with saddles jacked up to the sky and deep drops.

When I was a kid we didn't wear helmets for ice skating, even pick up hockey games, nor did we wear bike helmets. Parental approval for sure!

Just look at the number of replies here. So many of the "real cyclist" sure get their underlovelies in a huge wad if you attack their favorite bike material.

Keep in mind that it is just carbon fiber reinforced plastic.

We’ll defer to you on this subject, as you probably have a lot more experience with huge wads in underlovlies.

Okay. Lots of other people feel differently. Also, the issues involved with this specific piece of CF are pretty much all user error.

Personally, I'm a big fan of CF.

That's a revelation. I've always considered it epoxy resin-stabilized carbon fiber.

Epoxy resin = plastic = peanut butter. They're all the same.

Keep in mind that "plastic" is a wide range of materials, with a wide range of mechanical properties.
