Semi-retired Industrial Automation Developer. Still do Database Programing as a contractor and operate the family farm. It seems Bicycling really appeals to IT/Engineering/Education types. On the 50+ forum 3/4 of the people were from these areas.

I think it is more the familiarity with computers that lends itself to the forum(s)... likely hundreds of thousands of riders out there who fear the internet... and the fattening internet cookies contained within it

Retired Navy photographer working as an Engineering Tech in the desert. One day climbing towers, the next in a bucket truck, or stuck at my work bench, and rarely (still too often) in my cubicle. Otherwise, my office is a windshield... I've also been a radar tech, electronics repairer, photo processor repairman/technician...

I work in the aviation and defense industry. I am a soldering technician and work in the aftermarket/service department fixing FADEC (Full Authority Digital Electronic Controls) flight control systems. I have my BS in Management but couldn't find a J-O-B using my degree so this will do for now. I work 3rd shift which has its plusses and minuses. I also play bass guitar semi-professionally; mostly live gigs, but have a few recording credits to my name as well. There is a fellow bass player with my same name that has done some big time recording sessions, but sadly that is not me... Mine are lesser known regional folks.

I'm a registered, NCARB-certified, LEED-accredited architect who was unemployed for 18 months, working now outside of my field in a subsistence job with little pay and no benefits.

Kids, don't go into architecture.

Retired from the Air Force. Now, for fun I drive my company car all day long. It has cool flashy blue lights and I siren. I'm always on the lookout for obnoxious drivers disrespecting cyclists. It is sad we don't have many cyclists here.

My group makes chemicals for ILDs. I'm pretty sure some of our chemists have been up there.

I know someone there that is involved in cycling that works or worked there. Cindy Hines if my feeble memory is correct. I was a bicycle race official in another life.

I'm guessing that sharing stories, ideas, information, and knowledge, etc., about Bicycling, on the computer, would attract the IT contingency of cyclists.

I've been wondering about the careers of BF members myself - especially those who are able to post often. Although I have access to online information at work, we are strictly forbidden to use online services at work, for anything other than work - and even if we were able to, there would be no time.

I think some of it is that we're (It/Engineer/Eds) researchers. We depend on the internet to keep updated on the tools necessary to achieve a result. Writing code 40 hours a week was a stressful drag. That's why I took early retirement and went off on my own. I'm lucky to be productive 15 hours a week. If a Client wants it faster than that I tell them to find someone else.
