You also don't have lower gears. 28-36 is about 4% higher than your old 24-32.

I finally got on some rideable gravel outside of Jerusalem yesterday. My favorite ride so far is from downtown Jerusalem to the Kennedy Memorial--about a 20 mile round trip--which is all pavement. I've been looking for a flatter approach because the Memorial is at the top of a large hill. Well, this route is even hillier than my normal route but I was treated to this 2 mile section of gravel that is next to the Israel National Trail (they took inspiration from the US's Appalachian Trail). What a treat that was!

My understanding is that several sectors are open in the Negev. I'd sure like to ride that.

It is a tourist destination and I came across several companies that will offer guides or rent bikes:

I'll ask around in our community if people have taken bike tours and would recommend a company.

First time on two wheels in one of the few undulating parts of southern Manitoba on Saturday. A nice change from the pan flat grid roads closer to home. Put together a (metric) century based off some other ride I peeped off of Strava, which turned out to be a nice mix of grid roads, rail beds, and farm tracks. Only had 11 vehicles cross paths with me in over 4 hours, and only chased by dogs 4 times.

First ride on my new (to me) FG gravel bike. An old Apollo frame with a 12/14 flip flop on an Alexrims RPD15 wheelset with a 40 crank. The tires are 38mm.
The bike came with HP road tires, no pedals, seat or bar tape for $40. I had extras of everything so that's my investment so far.
25 km's of dike with a bit of road. No brakes yet so I am trying to avoid hills

The bike is inspiring me as there is an extensive series of dike systems where I live and it is so simple to ride (but not easy). Going out again today!
I said it had 38mm tires on but they turn out to be 35's. They are originals off a 1992 Trek garage queen I was given and seem to last forever. Matrix Multitracks. The size writing is small and worn so I assumed they were what they were. They are a great supple and fast ride and after the third year of all season commuting and now gravel duty we'll see how long they'll last. I mounted some cheap 38's to the Trek last night as a replacement and that twigged me to the size difference.
