Freewheel Change out

For those who might be horrified by the Shimano freewheel on my Molteni replica, I have since changed it out to a Regina!

Balance was returned to the FORCE!

Cheers,

Andy

The always excellent Retrogrouch blog did a post on the 'real' Merckx hour record bike: The Retrogrouch: Will the Real Hour Record Bike Please Come Forward?

An excellent article indeed.

A friend who knows Ernesto Colnago told me that the hour record bike is in the Colnago museum (which is, I think, not open to the public). In the video of the 1972 hour record attempt you can see Ernesto Colnago with a reserve bike. For sure there were not only several handlebars but also several frames.
I could imagine that the bike in the subway station is the one that was actually used for the record attempt, only "restored" a couple of times in later years, stickers replaced and handlebars swapped (it now looks much like the bike in the video, doesnīt it?), and that Colnago kept the other one that was not used on that day. No "Windsor" stickers on that one, I guess...

on other replicas he engraved under the chrome on the top of the fork crown his knife making logo. Baylis in an ellipse with four small “compass” point triangles

I sent an email to the Merckx bicycle firm on 6/23, they stated they would reply in 4-5 business days.
nope.
I guess that sums it up.
that is history.
accuracy is of no import

I was once in touch with them, too. I wanted to buy a fork for a Corsa Extra frame. My first email was not answered, the answer to the second one (around six weeks later) included an apology for their silence.

Maybe you want to try again.

Pretty sure this is not the real hour bike, but it is a Trek 414 I did a few years back with Molteni somewhat in mind.
