Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The only way to do that event is to camp at the fairgrounds. Once I had the camper that's what I did.

My ex and I reserved a non smoking room for some event, a century ride. When we checked in they said only smoking rooms were open so that's what we got. It was disgusting. After that we decided to get another camper since I had sold the other one.

Staying in a campground in an RV is so much better than a motel.
Depends on the hotel. For our 25th, I sprung for a suite at the Four Seasons on Anguilla for two weeks. Man, was that ever sweet. Could have bought an RV for the cost, but could not replicate the trip. First and only time I've done something like that, and doubt it happens again. But, it sure was a good time.

You are right, smoking room suck. These days, I only stay in smoke free hotels since I'm pretty allergic to it.

Hey, P & R is back.

This probably belongs there, but DougRNS needs to see it.

That anniversary trip sounds epic. A lifetime memory, for sure.

For the things I've done when I'm not riding or busy with some activity just being in a motel room is boring. Being in a nice campground is fun hanging out.

We had some fun motel trips, too. A bunch of us used to go to the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains and do day rides. One friend who makes his own beer brought a small keg thing on ice and after rides we all sat around the motel pool and told stories and the drinkers got buzzed and we went out for dinner together, etc.

That tweet needs the new downvote feature, or maybe that's only for replies. hmmm. Well all Marsha's tweets need a downvote button

We rarely hang out in hotel rooms. We're always out and about doing something.

Anyone with Mississippi and Alabama on their Southern border would feel the same.

What a random thing to post.

I haven't done it in a number of months, but I have a route that goes into Anderson County. The road on the other side of the ridge as you enter the county is very rough, so much so that I have to ride my brakes for part of it.

Now I know who to blame.
