I wear basketball jerseys when I ride, and cycling kit when I shoot hoops. Is that okay?

Commonly used in the soccer (football) world when describing the new "kit" for the upcoming season. Well, at least in England, the rest of the UK, and Europe.

If you really want to yank someone's chain, start referring to pro team logos/colors as "livery", like F1. Though I suppose this could arguably be exclusive to the machine, and not the clothing.

I get grief wearing a jersey from an event I didn't do, but it was a $5 jersey at a yard sale. Last thing I'm gonna do is rock a QuickStep World Champion jersey (they're, like, a hundred bucks! )

I wear ~$20 jerseys from Amazon. Never understood why people pay $75-$100 for a polyester jersey just because it has a bike brand name on it or some other silly logos.

With a Colnago cap? BTW....During my 2017 bike tour across PA I spent the second night at a campground that abuts F.C.I. McKean in NW PA. That's where Wesley Snipes had done his time for tax evasion.

While I don't go out of my way to spend as much money as possible on jerseys, the $80 Rapha Core jersey I splurged on last year is super comfy, stylish (matches the color scheme of the touring setup), devoid of a large logo and full-zip. I think I am going to buy another one shortly. I'm worth it, and i hadn't bought a jersey in many years. Most of them were gifts or free from fundraising events.

The price of the jersey is largely, if not entirely, based on the quality of the materials and construction, rather than any graphic design. Within the Rapha lines, for instance, a Pro Team Training jersey is the same price whether it's plain, a special edition (like Lachlan Morton's Seeing Sound), or one of the EF team designs.

My $20 bike jerseys are comfy. Just as comfy as the $80 bike jerseys that I have that I won at bike races. Actually can't even tell the difference.

But it's not stylish and doesn't match the color scheme of my bike, shorts or anything else I wear. I guess I'm doing it wrong.

You are pretty much correct and that is why in the same post I had gone on to reference recreational riders wearing full kit anywhere for any reason.
I get the difference between being a fan and wearing it to actually engage in the sport.
The person I was replying to did not though and that was my point.
Bottom line is that I don’t really care what recreational riders want to wear anywhere.
I was just pointing out that whatever they wear cannot be in any way justified by other people wearing a football jersey. As was stated by the poster in this thread.
It is now officially a dead horse but anything that brings out my biased and spandex-clad fan club is always a good time

That's what scares me off. Sounds sweaty and itchy. I'll take my soft cotton T-shirts every time.... Aero drag be damned.

They are all made of 100% polyester or a mix of polyester and spandex. That's the same whether you spend $20 or $100 on a jersey. The only question mark is maybe the zippers or elastic around the pockets and waist. With that said I haven't had any problems with my $20 jerseys. And if it does malfunction...I can buy 4 - 5 jerseys for the price of a brand name jersey.

The only place I have seen where the quality of materials and construction matter is the bike shorts. There is something to be said for premium padding and a good fit. As I do own shorts from LG, Giordana and Pearl Izumi.

I don't have any problems with sweating or itching with a polyester jersey. Cotton however holds water...I'd be soaked wearing a cotton T-shirt.

And their Core line recently went down in price, too. SS jerseys are now $70 and they sometimes have bundles, like two for $120 or so, or a jersey with with bibs for $150 or so. I think their Core Bundles are a pretty damn good deal for comfort and quality.

If you're thinking about some for touring, definitely consider the core cargo bibs. I certainly gave the thigh pockets the side-eye the first time I saw them, but I bought a set and loved them so much that I bought another pretty much immediately. For any 100+ mile, non-team ride, they're my go-to for having snacks handy or to temporarily stow arm warmers that have been peeled off, etc.
