At track pursuit races, it is customary to get lap times called because typically electronic devices are not allowed. On a 250 track, one would get 7 time checks in a 2K pursuit and the opening lap and second lap are somewhat critical to make sure that the racer is not going to fast at the start. Marymoor is a 400 meter track that means there are only 4 time checks and the first one would ordinarily be at the end of lap one.

Roger Young suggested that we use two timers and call 1/2 lap spits. So I was stationed on the home stretch and Roger was on the back stretch. Here is a pic of me calling 1/2 lap times for my wife. Photo by Tim Chandonnet

I want to try this thing called track one day. Maybe I could get the wife to try it and I could yell at her... That usually never ends well for me.

It depends if she wants you to yell at her. This looks easier than it is. She is at 27 mph with her ears covered with a lot of wind noise. The call has to be right in her ear. For teams I call the time twice.

Found this gem on the interwebs from last weekend
I already gave back the gold bit, they just collect dust and will be thrown away by the kids when I die.
And yes, that's as high as I can get my right arm after the truck v. bike and surgery fiasco I been dealing with the past year.

It was. I never could ride through it, I don't have enough power, I had to dismount/fall off and walk/run through there.

Chuck, growing up is something I never want to do.

Yeah Sara!!!! Crossin it up!!! With my fused ankle and the good one killing me I gave up cyclo cross this year. I miss the races and scene already. Last week they had 21 men in the 55+ race in our local series. When I started racing cross about 7 years ago we only has 8-15 racers in the Cat 4 event (Cat 5 now). Now the race fills up during pre-registration and there are second races.

AJ, ohhhhh.... I feel for you, my friend. Cross is definitely the bomb, and I'm sorry you can't race this season.

Nacler, I'm afraid I might crack a tooth! Teton, thanks! Yes, cross is not like a crit where you can hide in the pack, that's for sure. Still, it is waaaaay fun!!
