I'm a TT prof. Himespau is right that this is generally the attitude regarding teaching: those who care a lot about teaching are generally taken to be less serious about research. And institutions--even 'teaching' focused ones--care way more about research than teaching. Often the care for teaching is lip service. Generally, as long as teaching is 'adequate,' then all that matters is research. A great teacher with mediocre research won't get tenure, but a great researcher with mediocre teaching will. Not saying it's 'right,' but that's how higher ed works.

Yeah, and that's my struggle. As someone who comes from a family of teachers (and who wanted to teach elementary until I decided I loved science too much to give it up), teaching is a big part of who I am. Half-assing it for students who pay as much as $1500 for a semester of my time feels wrong, so I need to find a middle gear - not all or no effort but somewhere in the middle.
Yeah...I might be one of those people who goes up for tenure in their 4th year.

I did very well on my final face to face interview today. 34 were considered, and I'm in the final four. Decision at the end of next week. If this doesn't pan out I go full force on looking east because we are relocating for my wife's job. This is my last stand in western MA.

still, when something can be found, easily, new for $888, it's hard to imagine someone buying new for $850.
of course, i hope canuckbelle gets $1000+ for it.
sometimes deals are not available or inventory is low for whatever reason, or an old/used item happens to be particularly in demand for a specific person.

naturally. if one finds the right buyer at the right time, you can get a surprising amount.

That's pretty funny. It's amazing the ancient technology still in use sometimes. I really like jalopnik, I enjoy the comments on that whole family of sites (I read Gawker, Deadspin, and Jalopnik mostly), people are damn funny sometimes. I'm only un-greyed on Gawker though (even though I started on Jalopnik many years ago).
I mainly read Jalopnik and the regular links to whatever the military site is, Alpha something. And Black Flag. And Formula Freak's stuff. Someone un-greyed me but I'm grey overall.

Confirmed my participation in North Star Grand Prix this year. Exciting to do my first stage race ^_^ Riding the CCA NC/SC state RR championship on June 12th (defending my title), then driving directly to St Paul, MN (with a stop somewhere about halfway). ...then driving home after it all. Going to be a long ~10 days!
