Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Too cold to ride outside, but finally cold enough to have a good ride inside.

Sigh. Thinking it would be nice to have the option to ride inside but also wondering if I would want/ have any motivation to use it.

Just tweaked my back in the hotel gym. Was doing warm up incline dumbbell press, and when I used my knees to lift the weights up to my shoulders and slid my back to the seat I felt something pull. Finished the set but could tell when I put the weights down something was off. Got on the treadmill to just walk at a slow pace and the pain started to build. Now laying on the floor.

Getting old sucks.

Waiting for a shipping confirmation sucks - I can't wait to get one so that I can bookmark the tracking page and compulsively hit F5 until it's on my doorstep.

I'm probably going to sell my rollers soon.

I'll keep the dumb turbo trainer. Might borrow some sensors my dad has and try out some of the different apps. Maybe those would help. I don't think anything makes it not suck totally though.

If I had one, I think it would have to go into the garage. I have a nice garage, white walls clean floors, but the idea of spinning for an hour or two in there is depressing. If I put it in the house I would be interrupted constantly. I’ll never get to the tour de france that way.

Been debating on a smart trainer, but would like a smart bike. Already have a workout room with some other stuff, and a big TV in that room which would work well with it. Hard call on spending the money though.

What's the consensus on carbon bikes attached to a smart trainer. Read that the Trek/Specialized frame warranty goes out the door with them.

Explains my Bontragers as well - walk in, buy them, walk out with them.

If I went that route I would pick up a used CAAD on craigslist or something similar. In my area they pop up pretty often for under 500.

I wouldn’t put my road bike on the trainer. Too lazy and if I had it in my house my wife would say NO.

I would have done that too. But if I left 400 dollars on the counter at trek and walked out with Bontrager carbon wheels I would be in jail.

I hook my R3 to the direct drive, not particularly concerned that it will cause any damage.

I would put mine in the lower level of our townhouse, it's mostly "my" area with my music stuff and computer. Plus I think that the only way it would get used is if it was permanently set up - if I had to grab the bike from the garage and hook it up every time I know I would never use it. Can't put it in the garage and leave it since I really love having a moderately warm car in the mornings through the winter Just wish I had a bigger monitor down there if I was to try and use one of the apps on my desktop.

I've only got one bike that I could put on there though and that's the chrome SLT. Not crazy about putting it on a trainer but I don't ever ride it once the roads get salted.
