I suspect that the bikes that many people are using don't cost anywhere near $15k.
Don't you keep talking about being dropped?
More expected than ironic.

Yeah because in years of cycling and dozens of crashes in tens of thousands of miles, I never hit my head. I also never had so many people in such a short amount of time tell me to wear a helmet, and I crash on my face within an hour of people telling me to get one. Thats hella ironic

I get dropped on the legit fast days on the racing ride, there is no shame in that. I was saying that Alto Velo has their fair share of slow grumpy freds who don't like getting passed by me. Average price of a bike on that ride is closer to 10k according to people on the ride. I got dropped by the fast dudes on Egan which was expected, if I was allowed to ride with them I doubt I would finish in the bottom half. I beat the ride leader and deputy up the first hill before they told me to **** off.

just ironic that I hit my head. Also you try riding in the ice and slush, I had to ride year round for my job, didn't get to take breaks for the weather. So yeah I have a history of crashing

BTW, at your age I didn't worry about melanoma either. Then 20 years later, I had a big slice taken out of the skin right above my right knee, because I had a mole that started getting larger and turned out to be a low grade melanoma.

My dad had one on his shoulder blade. Irish skin, NorCal sun, and years of shirtless tennis. They took a pretty big chunk out with a fancy sterile peach pitter.

I had a big chunk of skin taken out of my back, which I attribute to riding cross country in my youth,
including weeks shirtless across the northern plains.

You should be. California has one of the highest rates of melanoma in the US. Just because it's not hot doesn't mean it's not mutating the DNA in your melanocytes.

I was dumb and thought I "knew" how to crash because crashing was a big part of my job as a bike courier (those ****ers expected me to carry fountain drinks), this crash was the first time going over my handlebars since I was a kid so I had no idea how to fall and protect my head

You're convincing me that I don't want to ride with you, even more than I already didn't.
I haven't crashed since 1995. In the 7 years I've been recording rides on Strava, I've done 13,000 miles without crashing even once. It's not really something a lot of us do a lot of, or even any of, so when you talk about crashing dozens of times, and you say you're, what, 25? it doesn't fill us with admiration for your bikehandling skills.

I learned how to crash through having to carry stuff in terrible weather. Since ive moved to cali ive done like 4k miles and this was my first real crash (the car one a month ago doesn't really count cause I was drunk and asking for it.) You try holding a drink in your hand navigating on ice, its sketchy, stuff happens

I eventually did but stuff still happens. I remember on my first week of the job, we had an ice storm. Must have fallen a dozen times before learning how to ride on ice. The next day I only crashed once or twice. Trick is you can't turn or brake, so you gotta plan everything in advance

No but many have 15k bikes that they hardly ride and then get surprised when passed by people on slower bikes. Fred has like a bazillion meanings and one of them is someone who is new to cycling and buys a fancy bike and rapha kit because they think thats what they need to be fast. Also those bars are way safer than they look, I removed them though to be more social to the group rides. They could act as spears in a horrific crash
Well, unless you count tri bikes as having flat bars. They do, I suppose. Technically.
