I have a 40yr. old road bike with pretty relaxed geometry that I use for bumming around town. (Saddle and bars about even...spring-type saddle, extension brake levers, etc...). It works well for that. No need for a third bike.

I've got a GT transeo hybrid (with a suspension fork) that I use for towing a trailer, running to the grocery store etc.
My cannondale doesn't have anywhere to mount a rack properly, so I don't use it for anything besides being kitted up and riding by myself or with groups.
it saves the wear and tear on my road bike.
