Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

i haven't read all the posts, but i had my fit reimbursed by my company Health Care FSA. that's not exactly insurance, but at least i paid for it with pre-tax dollars which is about a 30% discount.

all that's required is that you get a specialist to recommend it as part of your treatment plan.

also, if you have a HDHP and HSA, you can use your HSA to pay for it. same reimbursement rules apply to FSA and HSA.

My insurance covered mine, but I'm not sure what their reasoning was. I had a medical referral for PT plus a fitting from the therapist for knee pain. Everyone made it clear that the fit was not going to be covered, from my GP who referred me all the way through the therapist.

I just never was billed for the fit. My only guess is that because one knee is strange it got covered as a medical necessity or something. I got billed for the deductible for that session, so it's not like there was a bookkeeping error.

I was ready to pay, and the benefits I got from the fitting on top of the PT (and learning why no matter how careful I was to keep a correct pedaling motion the pain was just getting worse and worse) were well worth what the cost would have been.

Those Health Savings Account administrators seem to allow reimbursements for practically anything. Then one day you get a letter from the IRS to show the transaction history. That's when you have to show what's medical and what's not.

Somewhat off topic, but would you mind sharing what it was that you learned?
