Riding out roll call: temp?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Glad no one was hurt. Anyone happen to have GoPro on hand?

I can easily ride and enjoy it with pretty normal clothes I have to about 30F without any special boot covers, etc. (assuming about a one hour ride). Below that, I use my XC skiing boot covers of which I have three different "weights". I rarely ride below 20F though just because I'm skiing by then.

I haven't hit a temperature so cold I wouldn't ride with proper gear. Road conditions are usually the limiting factor as deep snow and icy driving lanes make it too dangerous to share the road with cars as the shoulders disappear and the lanes get narrow. The cars can't stop and there's nowhere for you to go. Last winter we had great road conditions and my coldest ride was 15 miles at -14F with a windchill even colder. Had a great time and even had to shed a layer to keep from getting sweaty. It normally gets colder than that here, but last winter was exceptionally nice.

In January in Fargo, ND, they host the Brrrrrr!!! race along the Red River (of the north). It is just for fun but is about 10 miles along the banks and across the ice. It's open to any kind of bike with lots of MTBs, cyclocross, and other winterized bikes out there.

40 degrees when we started at 0800 yesterday; about 60 deg when we finished. I would say mid-30's is our absolute limit of starting temp given our gear and inclination. Borrego Springs will probably be about that chilly at the start next Sunday.

The colder it is at the start, the more gear we have to shed at the temps increase. On the tandem we can get storage limited.

Whatever. Everybody knows at that temp things go superfluid so there's no friction, so you didn't do any effort.
