Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sidis. 5.0s, IIRC.
I am riding Sidi Dominators - mountain shoes. However, the Dominator is literally exactly the same shoe as the Genius, except the Dominators have two holes and lugs on the soles, while the Genius have three holes and a smooth sole. Okay, for the weight weenies the lugs do made the Dominators a bit heavier. But both have the same carbon sole, so both will or will not give you hot spots equally. Personally, I have been doing a lot of 5-6 hour rides this season (and a few much longer ones), and I have yet to have a hot spot.

I also wear the S-Works. Specialized has a toe box that just plain works for me.

Walk?!? Why the heck would you want to do that?

Had Shimano SH-R086. Put about 3500 miles on them. Did okay but never quite fit right. I have a very narrow foot that is flatter than a pancake. About a week ago got some specially ordered Sidi Genius 5 Pros in a 43.5 narrow width. Got a bit over a hundred miles on them. THEY'RE AWESOME!

I use Specialized Sports. Not high end but they are comfortable on several hour rides so far.

Protip: If you like Specialized shoes and know your size, they sometimes have pretty good deals on their 'specials' page:

My feet are two different sizes, so I picked up the Sidi Ergo 2 with the adjustable heel cup. I either had heel slippage with the right foot, or a way too small toe box with the left foot depending on which size I tried of various other shoes. The Sidis were expensive, but the ability to crank down the heel cup on the right shoe to make both of them fit was worth it.

I hear this claim from a lot of people, yet it seems just as many people are riding ultra distance events on them, on mountain and road.

For the OP, I'm on Shimano R215 right now, although they're starting to feel a tad too narrow for me. Maybe it was the weight loss, maybe my feet are flattening out. Still, other than a slight tenderness to my left big toe after a long ride, they are nice.

How do you like those Bont Vaypors? They look like the ultimate cycling shoe in terms of fit, comfort, and power transfer. Bont's shoes never looked that great, but they are getting better, and quite honestly I can care less if the performance is there. I'd like to hear from someone that owns them first hand though. Do they live up to the hype? Did you heat mold them to your feet or are you running them out of the box?

Thanks!

OP, I just upgraded from the R-220s which I've ridden for close to 6,000 mi. over the past two years to the Specialized S-Works. R-220 is a great shoe. The S-Works is even greater. You will like the wider toe box on the S-Works. The last is flatter than the last on the Shimano, so it has a roomier/wider feel. The upper on the S-Works is also much softer and therefore more pliable. S-Works is appreciably lighter. But more than anything the Boa lacing system is really nice, offering a level of adjustment that the R-220's velcro and ratchet system doesn't come close too.

OP.....OK...I use R220s in size 42. 1200 miles in 2 months...I like them. I never got the custom mold for the insoles, but I did get after market insoles with a slightly higher arch.

I just got it few days ago, was on sale at CC. I'm not able use it at this time.
The leather seems to be hard compared to my Sidi.

Awesome. You went to a bike shop, tried on shoes to determine size, then went home and bought them elsewhere. At least you still didn't get it right. LOL.
