As for science studies... the great thing about being a scientist, is that we don't "prove" anything. Our research supports or refutes hypotheses within a margin of error. I'm not going to dig for it right now, but the best peer reviewed study I've read on ebola basically said what everyone knew... body fluid contact is really the only way you are going to catch ebola. They studied transmission rates using environmental samples taken from infected patients -- in this case absorbent bandages, sharps, things they touched, etc.
BTW -- if anyone has an odd fetish (freaks)... I do remember the paper talking about the possibility of ebola transmission through sex being extremely high -- just saying.

Play it safe! If you get a fever at any point for the rest of your life, be sure to rush to the emergency room and mention that you work as a bike mechanic, and someone many miles miles away was violating the isolation protocol for Ebola and rode a bike, so you are in the high risk category.
Or remember that people in Texas who lived in an apartment for a few days with someone who had raging symptoms and tested positive for Ebola did not come down with the disease, and enjoy life.

Actually, yes I do. Also got a batch of re-ups on older vaccines, Hep A/B vaccine, and an emergency bottle of Cipro for when I traveled to China...
But no ebola vaccine. Let me know when the US ebola outbreak is over so I can come out of my bunker again.

Hypothetical scenario: So what if I take my bike to your shop? Let's say you work on her bike first, get her sweat all over you, you contract ebola, then you work on my bike and sneeze/cough all over it. Then would I catch ebola? Hmmmm. Good thing I have my own tools.

Another sensible reason for learning to work on your own bikes -- EBOLA!!!

We need to keep some perspective here.
The Ebola epidemic in West Africa has been going on for quite a while. So far we've had 2 cases of primary illness in people who had traveled to the affected areas, and a few cases among health care workers treating those patients.
But there have been ZERO cases of secondary transmission outside of the medical facilities. That means no family or friends, even with relatively close contact. So all the concern here about secondary transmission from contact with something a (possibly) infected person might have handled is a bit farfetched.
Actually the greater danger isn't for or about medical workers returning from Africa. The greater danger is from regular civilians who might return from a visit to families there, and as non professionals might write off early symptoms as a cold or flu. Remember the original case in TX wasn't a health care worker, it was a regular Joe, which is why it was missed early on.
As they say, "it isn't the devil you know, ...."

It was intended "to support local risk assessments in a laboratory setting." for real world conditions it was "a few hours".

The ads being served by BF for this thread are for Dr. Oz. Perhaps he knows something we can do.

...that's pretty unusual for Bike Forums and the internet in general. I wonder if we might be experiencing a virus ?

" Neither MARV nor ZEBOV could be recovered from metal substrate at any time." so the metal bikes should be safe.
That's even with infected dried tissue media culture smeared on it and kept in a lab at 4°
More good news from that study (see link), the "service backlog" can be reduced to 14 days if you'll store it inside! since "no virus could be recovered from any substrate stored at room temperature"

Are you kidding?! Please tell me that you were bored and wanted to start a thread on a topic that you knew would get a lot of attention. Unless you're directly exposed to her bodily fluids you will NOT catch Ebola. If you plan to f@ck her than you might want to take some precaution.
My response is meant with seriousness along with sarcastic jest. I just cannot believe that you are asking this as a serious question. Did I miss your jest? Are you asking sarcastically or seriously?

Especially since she has tested negative, and does not have a fever.
