Hoods for Spidel LS2 and Weinmann 400 Carrera brake levers....... they are almost unobtanium!
And what about those older, really small "chain catcher" screws that go on Stronglight chainrings. Other than scavenging them from old chainrings, I cannot find a direct replacement for them. The few newer ones that pop up at eBay are too big.....

First prototype just arrived today. Not quite ready for prime time, but very promising.

Nice! So how does the 3D material compare to Delrin? UV/ozone/solvent tolerant? Torsional/tensile/shear strength? I've wondered if there was a way to epoxy an internal metal strengthening member into one.

Already done. Want some? I need to make another batch anyway. Couple people over on the Paceline are still waiting on 'em.

This material is no good for actual use, especially with the original design. I just wanted a cheap prototype to make sure I was on the right track.

The problem with the original design is that it puts the Delrin under tension right where the two mounting bolt threads end. There is also bending stress in the same area, because of those little partial flats that touch the chrome clamp piece. The original has metal nuts molded into it so the threads are strong. It will eventually crack and break where the nut ends.

Aluminum or another metal is probably strong enough to survive over time.

Someone was selling reproductions of these -- machined from stainless, I think. I kept a link that I got on this forum, but now it's defunct.

They seem so and are so easily lost (by me anyway) that I'm not surprised. Funny enough all three pairs of my old suntour bar end shifters aren't missing the bolt.

Man, there are some stellar lists going on here! What I can think of, in addition to some of the things already mentioned:

1) Hoods for various eras of Suntour (specifically Superbe and Superbe Pro, because, well, you know...) brake levers.
2) Hoods for more Shimano brake levers (late '70s-all '80s), including the AX/aero stuff (not that it looked that good or looked like it fit the lever body at all!).
3) Replacement freehub bodies and the freehub body removal tool for 740-era Shimano Dura-Ace units, for when mine dies and I sit there despondent with a pretty, and broken wheel.
4) Various single pivot caliper conical cap nuts for various companies. I am using Dia Compe BMX cones on my early Superbe calipers--they are super close, but could be closer.
5) Replacement parts for all Suntour Superbe Tech and Mountech RDs...stronger springs, please!

As for "modified stock," it would go something like:

1) New .833 quill stems in 26.0mm clamp size, along with a host of lengths. High polish or gloss black. My Super Le Tour 12.2 and I would be most happy.
2) Variable strength single pivot brake caliper arm springs (looking at you, Campagnolo!!), because nothing says counter-intuitive like a braking system that resists your efforts to brake...
3) Super dream: a vintage groupset that employs all the benefits of modern metallurgy, other materials, with new (shiny) finishes [I've worked off and on, on designing this].

There was a seller on eBay selling nice repops with an adjustment screw. They weren't cheap, about $40 BIN. I checked for the adaptor but none are listed. The seller's name was ekv-cate.

I kept this link. It still works, and there's an email listed on the blog.

(A) hoods for Universal brand brake levers

(B) decorative cover place for the Simplex 543 derailleur. I have one option as I have two derailleurs and only one is missing the plate (fell off the one time I used it about 40 years back presumably because I did not tighten the retaining screw), and I recently found out a nephew bought a 3D printer, so maybe he can make one using the plate I still have as a pattern?

I never figured out why they made those Carlton/Raleigh hoods out of such a hard rubber, nor why they gave them square corners at the bottom. They look nice enough, especially with white tape and cable housings (as on my '74 International, below), but are the most uncomfortable hoods I've used.

Not so old, but I should have bought a few when Jenson had them on clearance for $5. 6500 Ultegra faceplates.

They do seem to last forever though. They don't break down like rubber hoods, and clean up nicely with hand cleaner. After the apocalypse, it will just be cockroaches and Carlton hoods.

Well, I learned from a project last year that the black Carlton hoods are really hard to find. It's possible all of those white ones ate them.

These are just threaded inserts (nutserts) and are available online and through most industrial supply houses. The install tool is available and inexpensive. The trick is getting the old one out without damaging the finish or tubing. Did one recently on an aluminum Trek. I carefully filed it flush, knocked the remains into the frame, pulled the fork, and shook the old one out through the headtube.
