A 'salad' of tomatoes is a treat and is a lot cheaper to make than to buy in restaurant but it takes being able to thin-slice roma tomatoes and sprinkle on things like olive oil, red wine and balsamic vinegar, mustard powder, celery seed, parsley, paprika, mozzarella and parmesan cheeses, salt, pepper, garlic, onion, fresh basil...

“If the bag says the greens have been washed, pre-washed, triple washed, ready to eat, or has any other indication that it’s already been washed, you’re better off not rinsing it again,” she says.

What the “Ready-to-Eat” Label Really Means

Those labels indicate that the salad has already been through at least one wash cycle with a sanitizing solution before packaging. This produce-friendly, people-safe solution often contains hydrogen peroxide or chlorine to kill bacteria already on the food and keep them from multiplying.

But if you open the package and start handling it yourself, the greens can come in contact with organisms on your skin, countertops, or sink, Godwin says. That can increase your risk of ingesting bacteria or germs that lead to illness.

In fact, you’re better off not touching the salad at all, she explains. Just pour it directly out of the bag and into your bowl...

same deal with hand sanitizers that kill 99.99% of pathogens. It's that .01% that it really nasty and hard to kill
I'm pretty sure your immune system can handle it.

That or, just wash your hands, counter, utensils before preparing food? Also, its typically the transfer that's the problem: going from say raw meats to a salad.

Speaking of salad I have one last night with all the fixins and it was delicious. I had some leftover chicken breast and roast pork in the fridge, but only a scant amount of each so I just cut them into cubs and mixed them both into the salad. I love my weekly salad.
